I have wanted this game since january and this has been my most wanted game since then (i wanted it more then Metal Gear Solid 2) and this game is going to be amazing.

Basically you take control of either four American Delta force people or four British SAS soldiers, the missions stay the same but the combat gear and the accents change.

You start off as a single soldier but your first mission involves rescuing a prisoner from the iraqi guards, this prisoner is infact the top sniper rifle guy so then he joins your quest and you have two people, eventually you will have four people in your squad and they can look after themselves.

They are gonna be the most realistic AI ever and they will protect you if you decide to go in alone (apparantly) they decide which gun they want to use in certain situations and they can think like real soldiers, one example that i have read about is that if there is a group of soldiers and you hide and decide to attack one of the other characters controlled by the computer will throw a grenade at them without you telling them to, they wont however throw the grenade at just one person because it would be a waste.

The four characters are meant to be really easy to control by just using the D - Pad to switch between the characters so you dont need to bother with any of them map thingys that the PC stratedgy games bother with.

Each character has a special role assigned to him, they are, rifleman, technician, heavy weapons man and leader. The others can do all the same jobs but the person who is aquired to do the job does it best.

Your characters build up experience points and that is why it is invaluable to not lose a character you have had for say 5 levels because he would have been an expert at shooting and keeping cool etc, but when he does get really badly injured you have 3 minutes exactly to get to him or he dies and a rookie comes in who cant shoot properly etc.

One good thing that looks good is the fact that you can get a target locked in like a tank and then you can call an air strike and watch as the F-16s fly in and blow up the target.

You can ambush people by skillfully setting your troops up and then giving them the order of "attack".
Talking of Orders there are a few, to be activated all you need to do is press L1 and then either triangle, circle or X and that will make them either, "stay back and cover you" "charge" or "follow me".

Conflict desert storm supports mulitplayer but its only two player which im happy with, you can ambush your mates etc.

Earlier today we visited the London office of SCi to check out the latest build of Conflict: Desert Storm - a third-person squad based action game based on the events of the 1991 Gulf War. The version of the game we actually saw was for the PS2 but we're assured that, aside from a few graphical and controller differences, the Xbox and PC versions will be identical.

The very first level of the game will see you assuming the role of a lone commando who needs to rescue a comrade captured behind enemy lines. Success in this mission sees you subsequently taking control of both of the characters for the next mission and by the time you reach the first mission proper - around level four or five - you'll have your full complement of four squad members, each with their own unique attributes and areas of expertise. You'll have a rifleman, a sniper, a heavy weapons expert and an electronics and infiltration specialist - although it's worth noting that each of the characters is fairly competent across the board.

For the purposes of the demonstration, SCi's Matthew Miles-Griffiths initially took a fairly gung-ho approach to the missions in order to show off some of the more spectacular fire fights that occur as a result. It quickly became obvious to us that this is not the correct way to approach any of the missions in Conflict: Desert Storm - although it did provide a good opportunity for us to witness the way that members of the squad can give each other medical attention if one of them is incapacitated in any way, and providing you have access to enough medical kits.

Members of your elite squad that are killed in action will be replaced by another with the same area of expertise in time for your next mission. Cleverly though, the developers have incorporated some RPG elements that see your soldiers' abilities increasing through experience - this encourages you to grow attached to them and to value their lives as if they were your own. Losing members of your squad can not only make your current mission much more difficult to complete, but with relatively inexperienced soldiers coming in to take their place for the next mission you'll basically be using a slightly less effective squad for the remainder of the game, or at least until your newbies have racked up some serious experience points.

I hope this comes in handy for you.

Here is some info on the sequels

Taken from gamespot.com

SCi has announced a development agreement with Pivotal Games for two further games in the Conflict series--which SCi is referring to as "highly successful," despite the fact that the first game, Conflict: Desert Storm, isn't due in stores until September.
The first of the two sequels, due for release in 2003, is Conflict: Desert Sabre. This will be a direct sequel to Conflict: Desert Storm, a game that was designed in collaboration with ex-SAS NCO Cameron Spence and focuses on the SAS and Delta Force teams sent into Iraq during Desert Shield. Desert Sabre will add further missions and characters to the conflict, although few details have been released at this time.

The second sequel, due for release in 2004, is Conflict: Missing Presumed Dead. Unlike Desert Sabre, this game will feature an entirely original concept based on the events of the Vietnam War. The game will see players assuming control of four US soldiers who have lost contact with their unit behind enemy lines during the 1968 Tet Offensive. The soldiers have to fight their way back to the American lines in what SCi is describing as "an epic journey reminiscent of Apocalypse Now."

Conflict: Desert Storm is due for release in September. SCi will publish the game in Europe, while in the US it will be one of the first games to be published under Take-Two Interactive's new label, Gotham Games. For further information, check out our previous coverage of the Xbox and PC versions of the game.
