The "General Games Chat" forum, which includes Retro Game Reviews, has been archived and is now read-only. You cannot post here or create a new thread or review on this forum.
2. There is no red number in brackets (lately white number in brackets). This is a very sad situation. Unfortunately it was muscled off the top bar to make way for "walkthroughs". We surely need to find a little space for it somewhere.
But I also think that maybe people aren't getting the idea right and even if they do come here they are unsure of what goes on and how to win.
Why not have a competition or just ask regulars/notables etc to write a few rules/help points so that new people know what to expect.
The things you can/can not do and what goes on. It may be a little helpful to keep more new users staying longer.
Also get them to write a bit on what they won, how they won it and what it feels like to win and put these in the mag and on the gameaday site.
1. The forums don't have the friendly feel to them that they used to. There's a lot of silly bickering that goes on, some of which gets gets quite personal and nasty at times. Sadly, this isn't limited to the younger people on the forums; in fact, quite a lot of it is from people who would have you believe that they're well-educated and above such childish behaviour. Anyone who just drops in at random and sees that sort of thing isn't likely to consider staying.
2. Over the last few weeks, the forums have been a nightmare to get on. I personally have experienced no end of database errors, slow access (even today), and the inability to post. This has been before, during and after the move to the new servers, and has not just been intermittent but has on occasions lasted for hours. I'm sure I read some research results somewhere that said most people will move on if a site does not load in ten seconds or less. That may not only have cost you new users, but also tried the patience of regulars. I know it did with me.
3. Over the last several months, it seems that several of the 'better' regulars are, for various reasons, deciding to take a break or leave entirely. I don't know their reasons, but I'd guess that what I mentioned in point (1) has something to do with it. I personally used to come here because I really enjoyed it, and because I wanted to; more recently, it's become something I do because I have nothing better to do. I come on here during slow periods at work in order to pass some time. But when I was on holiday the week before last, I was barely on here at all, despite being at home most of the time. A lot of that was due to the reasons already mentioned, but also down to...
4. Spam. The forums are becoming more and more littered with crap. There are very few topics these days that are worth reading, let alone replying to. And they push all the better topics way down the list. And I'm sorry, but most of this is due to Newbies. There have been some excellent new arrivals, but it is a fact: most Newbies post nothing but crap. It's just the same old things, over and over and over again. Not only should the 'example' when starting a new topic be changed from "Console Wars - who is the best?", but you should now also SERIOUSLY consider introducing full-time Moderators - preferably staff, as I'm sure that using 'trusted users' would cause further resentment and arguments.
Well, that's what I think.
Also - while I don't mean to suggest that this has anything to do with the over-all number of users, it seems there is a lot of ill-feeling from many of the regulars about the banning of a certain respected member of the forums. I'm sure I don't need to mention his name, but the whole situation has become farcical, and doesn't reflect well on anyone.

Where is it i'll have a look if you like.

Exactly. In my first post, I said that I was new to the site, unaware that by saying so, I would attract dissaproving comments.

Yesterday, I think I posted a pretty interesting topic. Yet, with all the talk about banning, it was quickly ignored and shifted downwards.

Have mercy :-)
