Fret not, my friends, I am here to guide you!
SR's resident Agony Uncle will advise you what to do in ANY situation! Just ask!
Should I suppress my urges and take up a dull and distracting hobby, or should I just give-in and make a tentative approach?
I've been practising my chat-up lines: "bah, bah, bah-bah-bah" - that means: "Do you come to this muddy field often?"
Please help me, I can't sleep through worry and frustration.

There is nothing wrong, so to speak. If, as I am led to believe, you are talking about gaming consoles, it does not make much difference, because
a) Games machines have no concept of rejection, and
b) PS2 has everything PS1 did, and MORE. So really, you still have fun with your old friend...just better.
why is this wrong?

Your best bet would be to get a job first. Then, if they have some sort of plan already, it might be an idea to go with that. Otherwise, you may as well start looking around for new ones (from banks). I'm not sure how old you are, though. Maybe an ISA would be a good option, after what the Government is looking to do with making these more accessible, to encourage saving.
