Just got in from work, and thought i would go and check my e-mail. There is one there from a friend at smart groups. com. In the e-mail there is a news story, and that news story said, PS2 numbers have been cut from 200,000 units before xmas, to 165,000 units before xmas. A shortfall of 35,000 units. Only a few of these units will be released on launch day, and unfortunately, an official pre-order, no matter what date you pre-ordered at, is no guarantee of a PS2 before xmas. Each retailer is going to feel the pinch, as all allocations will be reduced.

This information looks official, and is reputed to have come from SCEE themselves. Please anyone out there, PROVE THIS STORY WRONG. I am hoping beyond all hope that this is just a rumour.

That's not a bad idea. Pity Sony never thought of that.

ahhh. there has already been a delay, and a shortage of what we thought wood have been availiable.

instead of saying a number of how many PS2s they think they could have they should say a lower amount to the pubic like 150,000 and if they go over this amount, good for them(and us).

IT'S nearly here.....
Beware the silence, a storm is brewing

You could be right. I am just feeling a little PS2'd out. I am sorry to be the eternal pessimist but i knew they (Sony) were holding out on something when they stopped the helpline giving out information. One day they were full of information, the next they had clammed up like a ............!!!!!

I just get the feeling that they may have rushed the launch, and if that is the case, errors are going to be more likely. Let's take the American launch, many PS2's were reported to be defective, not a good start at all. Then due to the console being so popular in japan, there are shortages all over the place. Obviously Sony have to make sure that their home market is happy, but being a multi national company, surely they should have done a better balancing act with the rest of the world. They sited difficulty with getting hold of the right components, but surely one of the worlds biggest electrics companies could do better than that.

All that aside though, and i am sure that some of you will disagree with me here, they have probably done more damage to themselves than Nintendo, Sega and Microsoft could have done altogether.

There, now i feel better. Let's hope that my mood is not so dark tomorrow.

Yes, i saw it afterwards. When i first saw the story, my first thought was to post it so i could get the opinion of you guys on the forum. Anyway Damo, i didn't think you would have a problem with my oversight, but it looks like you do, and to that end i am sorry.

I hope that the latest news is right, but to tell you the truth, i don't really care if i get one on launch day anymore. If we put it in perspective, at least we will get one. It is awsome though, i have had another go on my brothers mate's japanese machine. Tekken tag is brilliant.

Just browsing a few U.S sites and they state that Europe will recieve only 165,000 PS2's. This is surely a mistake, shouldnt it be the U.K recieving 165,000 PS2's? Has anyone else heard this??
