This information looks official, and is reputed to have come from SCEE themselves. Please anyone out there, PROVE THIS STORY WRONG. I am hoping beyond all hope that this is just a rumour.
well i ordered mine agen at another shop and cancelled another one a little while ago.
They promised me i'll b getting one on launch, and said i could fill out the order form through e-mail because it will b much quicker then filling an order form out through the post. so i done all that. and i phoned agen the other day. and they said i will still definately be getting one on the 24th. soooooooooooooooo i guess i will, i hope, or i will flip at them and fill there nose, mouth and ears with superglue. um yea.
But one thing is puzzling me, if they released 200,000 forms to begin with, and they have been saying that the forms were all sold within days, where have the other 35,000 been all this time?
One story is that a few retailers didn't advertise the fact that they were having an allocation of PS2's, so the forms were left unused at the stores. Now if this is true, i'm sure that these firms will soon be parting company with their advertising executives. The key to a good sales campaign is good advertising.
Let's say for example, Retailer A had 10 stores, each of them stores had 5 pre-order forms, now that makes an allocation of 50 units, his allocation has a shelf value of £15,000. Let's now say that the retailer didn't bother with advertising the fact that his company was getting 50 consoles, so none of his stores sold their pre-order forms. Along comes Sony, and withdraws the forms, leaving the retailer with no units, and no profit.
If this story is to be believed, then these stores seem to have made a grave error in judgement. They will also suffer on the software front, as i am sure that most people will be buying their software and accesories from the same store that they will be getting their console from.
So in conclusion, if this story is right, a message to all those retailers who didn't advertise: OOPS !!!!
