Easy does it for Salo in Monte Carlo

Salo has won the Monaco Grand Prix with a superb drive and a seemingly effortless one at that. He took the lead off the grid and never looked back.

Bernoldi, the pole sitter, was in the wars a bit. He suffered a loose wheel and had to make a pit stop and had to make a second stop, dropping him down to last. Frentzen, his teammate, increased his championship lead with a second place finish.

The weather was nice and dry which meant that a lot of cars kept their noses clean. Sato came a cropper when he crashed into the barrier on lap 46. Trulli, Salo, Panis and McNish all had close calls with the barrier but they all survived. Panis eventually retired with a transmission failure on lap 72. De La Rosa was first out with a transmission failure on lap 8.

Salo takes his first win of the season with Frentzen a long way back in 2nd. Montoya just couldn't find a way past Frentzen and finished 3rd. Raikkonen, Massa and Ralf Schumacher rounded out the top 6.

Full race results:

1st Salo (PS2 Proud) 1h43m47.134s
2nd Frentzen (KR) +28.018s

Excellent.

Another pole for Bernoldi. And the best thing is, it's at Monaco, the track where overtaking is very hard.

Bernoldi takes 2 in a row and it couldn't be more important

Bernoldi takes the most important pole of the season in an extremely close qualifying hour. Monaco is extremely tight and twisty and the cars at the front are very difficult to overtake. The weather was very hot and dry and it couldn't have been closer, 15 cars within a tenth of pole and 21 cars within two tenths.

Full qualifying results:

1st Bernoldi (Afrojoe) 1m17.192s
2nd Salo (PS2 Proud) 1m17.216s
3rd Barrichello (Reddy 2002) 1m17.218s
4th Panis (Your Honour) 1m17.224s
5th Frentzen (KR) 1m17.227s
6th Villeneuve (James Pond) 1m17.228s
7th Coulthard (Quinty) 1m17.230s
8th Trulli (Triple H) 1m17.231s
9th Montoya (Foreman) 1m17.234s
10th Massa (Ortega) 1m17.250s
11th De La Rosa (Grandprix) 1m17.254s
12th Button (Jetster) 1m17.270s
13th R Schumacher (Badgerman) 1m17.271s
14th Raikkonen (Figo) 1m17.281s
15th Webber (Ant) 1m17.291s
16th Heidfeld (Daxter) 1m17.295s
17th Sato (Bizarre Cabbage) 1m17.316s
18th Yoong (No.2) 1m17.321s
19th Fisichella (Major Chip Hazard) 1m17.323s
20th McNish (Dr. Pepper - oni) 1m17.357s
21st M Schumacher (Ronaldo) 1m17.362s
22nd Irvine (Dead Wonder) 1m17.408s

A wet race could see a lot of drivers stack their cars in the barriers. Will Bernoldi finally get that elusive win?
