What is the problem with them ? I was watching the news this morning and the presenter was coming out with the reasons that the Civil Liberties groups are coming out with.
If you go into a shop and pay with your credit card you will have to show your ID card as well - what's wrong with that then ? Surely this will cut down on an enormous amount of Card fraud.
If you go to a chemist to pick up a prescription you will have to show your ID card to prove who you are - So druggies wont be able to get false prescriptions of methadone anymore.
If you go to sign on you will have to produce your ID card to prove your identity - So this will help cut down on benefit fraud then.
The way I see it is that basically the only people who need to worry about having to carry an ID card with you all the time are people who are deliberately trying to break the law. The majority of law abiding citizens have no problem with bringing in such a scheme at all.
Am I right or not ?

As opposed to other people your height who are taller than you?
N.B The goverment also says that you do not have to carry the card with you at all times, unless you are an immigrant. A bit like driving licences you will be able to produce your card at a police station within a week.
On a note of driving licenses, there is no way I will be willing for an ID card if they cost as much as they do 20 odd quid for a proficiency, and as I work as a contractor for the DVLA on there printing systems. I know there is no way it could cost them even a fiver to produce a card!!!!

Of course, tax money isn't at all used to fund the NHS, the police, fire service, military, education, research and development or anything like that. No, they just sit on huge sums of money and laugh at the taxpayer.
No, really...

We all know that the government pockets a vast amount of money from the National Lottery and from Tax in general, so why not provide them for free and let the government pay for once?
I think they would be a good idea and personally believe that it is mostly people with something to hide that are opposed to the idea.
Driving licence, National Insurance card, a couple of bank cards, membership cards for various things - any of those can ID me, so what difference would carrying an official ID make? None.
Putting it like that, why have them? What does the government want to use them for exactly? I haven't been able to keep up to date with the news recently, for various reasons, so if someone could explain to me what they're going to be used for, that would be helpful. Cheers.
