I've been playing for coming on eight years now.
Just don't give up whatever you do. When I started out I could barely string two notes together (well, I WAS 7) but now.....well, you get the idea.

if ya play it a lot, after about a month or so, your fingers will toughen up so ya wont have as bigga marks in em!
And, about the tuning; all you need is a small electric tuner, and it'll tell you if you're flat or sharp (or high or low). Then it's just a matter of twiddling the knobs. OR, if you wanna be flash, just tune the E string and go from there :-D

I had no choice in the matter - I have muscular dystrophy and over time lost the dexterity in my fingers. I started playing when I was 8 and between then and when I was 13 I moaned everytime I had to practise . Now though, at 29, I wish I'd practised every minute of every day ...
