I am asking for the game and opinions, i don't just want people to say FF, but say FF7 as it had the most in depth story line.
I personally think that FF7 is the daddy asit has good graphics, for the time, the best story line ever and some great action! I am sure that most people will disagree but then i am sure that many will agree.
Within days i think a title will be crowned the daddy but i don't want an RPG series i want the game, i.e not Breath of Fire, but say Breath of Fire 3 or what ever.
Sir Auron
Though, for the record, I'd say ULtimaVII..
(As long as were talking 'pencil and paper' type RPG's and not console type Arcade-Adventures?)
Skies of Arcadia. Such an Original idea with great graphics, well developed plot with good characters. The chou idea is great as well, if your VMU bleeps then such for that chou. If this isn't the best RPG ever, then i don't know what is. And is there gonna be a Skies of Arcadia 2?
depends on what you want to include in the definition of "RPG"
I mean, Baldur's Gate II is far and away the best RPG to date. A true dice controlled combat system, a ruleset based completely on a real life ruleset (AD&D Version 2 rules) a great storyline, characters that continiued directly from the experience reached at the end of the previous game, a dozen different storylines and more making it different every time you play and more sidequests than you could swing a cat at.
However, since not everyone appreciates the indepth complexity of using such a powerful ruleset, I would put FF7 up there too. It's not complex, it's not difficult to grasp, you don't have to be a fan of the series, and it won't take a lot of reloading should you encounter difficulties.
FF7 has pretty graphics, and does have a good storyline. The whole deal with Cloud - especially his psychotic episodes - is just inspired. The combat system is remarkebly simple, yet enjoyable, and other than the first few parts of the game which are massively linear, the game can be played time and again to much enjoyment. However, Knights of the Round was just far, far, far, far, far too powerful... FF7 is a good all round RPG, though I personally think FF6 was a marginally better game - it certainly had more characters, but had appalling graphics...
However, people could include a number of first person games in the "RPG" genre. such as Deus EX or System Shock 2. The latter being a good game in my opinion, the former, not so.
I agree on FF7 as it is top class but am interested in SOA by what people have said!
