.... would some of you kind people mind telling me, on average, how log it takes for a typical SR page to download (Say this one for eg), and what connection type you have (Standerd Modem or ISDN/ADSL).

It's just this site seems very slow latley, and I want to know if its just my ISP sucking or if there is a slowdown at SR's end

Thanks to anyone who adds their details.

Are you thinking of the difference between WinModems and standard modems?

Therefore, whenever disconnecting/connecting to the internet, it is slightly faster with an external modem than with an internal one. Yes, I have tried this out for myself. It;s also the reason why the minimum specs for an internal modem are higher than that of an external one.

It shouldn't make that much of a difference on modern PCs, but if you have an ancient one, it could make a significant difference.

There is actually. OK, so although the speed determining your net connection isn't any different, there is a difference in processing time and resources taken by the modem.

You my friend, have been bitten by the marketing bug. There is no difference whatsoever between internal and external modems.

Yo fosbe,

Your tag line says "Ban Clan 2002".

Shouldn't it say "Ban Clan™ 2002"?

It takes 2-3 seconds to download a new page like this, and less than one if I've revisited the page from before.

I'm using an external 56k modem, so it should be faster (ever so slightly) than internal modems of the same speed.

That sucks, but my ADSL at my other house took 11 seconds to load the last time I clocked it, but then they're with the cack Blueyonder, which is bad all the time, in our area, at least :)

Vispa sounds interesting, if only I hadn't blown my last £50 on those PS2 games :P
