"Connection Speed...."

.... would some of you kind people mind telling me, on average, how log it takes for a typical SR page to download (Say this one for eg), and what connection type you have (Standerd Modem or ISDN/ADSL).

It's just this site seems very slow latley, and I want to know if its just my ISP sucking or if there is a slowdown at SR's end

Thanks to anyone who adds their details.

It's not the ADSL modem though... it's the monthly fee we have to pay that drains my account... if I had ADSL, that is.

Took 10 seconds for this page to load just then.

It only took a second or 2 for mine to load on a 56K.Sometimes its slower than other times.I still want broadband though :)

I do believe you're right. Although I could argue that most internal modems are Winmodems, so there.

And I went on a diet ages ago.

Maybe it's the wrong Windows drivers? Have you tried installing a new, more updated one from the 'net?

Am I the only one with Freeserve who has problems with loading?

Half of the pages never load, it just stops loading in the middle of a page!

You're getting confused between controllered and controllerless modems:

Controlled - Otherwise known as "software" modem, they actually do the modulating/demodulating in software, placing load on the CPU, reducing speeds, increasing latency and generally being crap. Most internal modems are controlled, but by no means all, EG, this ISA PnP modem I'm using now. Mmm...

Controllerless - They do all modulating and demodulating in hardware, placing no load on the CPU and most important of all - being generally really good. They're also compatable with ALL operating systems, a major plus. Almost (ALMOST) all external modems are controllerless, and some internal modems too.
