"Spamming must stop"

I've been alerted to the amount of spamming going on in these forums, and I'd like it to stop, immediately. It really is quite pointless posting meaningless words over and over again, and people who replay, just quoting the message are just as bad. I know the Longest Thread is just a bit of fun, but people have complained that the spamming is getting too much, so quit it.

People like KR, big_slow and Timmy have all boosted their word count significantly in this manner, while other people work hard writing good posts and don't even get on the list because it's filled with spammers. If it continues, we won't hesitate in banning the offending spammer, as it just wastes our time, your time and everyone elses time too.

You cant RM, but is banning them better than doing nothing? Yes. Banning them for a start would take all there stats away, number of days and posts ect. Something that takes a long time to build up, and once your banned, there gone. If they keep coming back and spamming, just ban them again.

They will soon tire of it, and remember, you need a new email address all the time when you sign up, and if they make a new one for every new alias, there extremely sad or desperate.

But banning is the start that is needed, its better than watching them shoot to the top of the lists for pointless crap.

Well thats because there are a few posters who come from all over SR to spam in the longest thread and ignore the rest of the posts. It isnt the forum on a whole, i can name many good posters off the top of my head who get over shadowed by the crap posted by just a few people who spend more of there time destroying the place than making it better.

Is not the forum on a whole, its a few morons who wreck it for the rest.

I echo those sentiments entirely. If they have the threat of being banned over their head, maybe it will stop.

Well said ali but nothing will happen unless you actually take action - I posted a couple of weeks ago in Sr site bugs etc asking you to stop Big Slow because he was just talking to himself in the longest thread and no one else could actually put anything else in there, but nothing happened.

He posted something like 42 posts in less than 20 minutes and this was at about 4.30 in the afternoon when things are normally quite quiet in here.

Action is needed from you, and also guidance.

How much of having a conversation with somebody would be considered as spam ? I personally chat in here during the day to some others who also log on at work. The longest thread enables us to chat during the day in a way that we would not be able to do otherwise as we can hardly log onto to MSN. I dont want to be accused of spamming and want to know if what I am doing here is acceptable.
