I reckon it should be legalised as it is not addictive and does not lead to harder drugs, although it would be hard for the government to tax.

"I don't think its the legalisation of Cannabis that matters, but the
catching of the idiots who use it" um... well... obviously... there wouldn't be an argument against cannabis if people didn't use it. I don't think anyone has a problem with it for just being a plant.
"Legalising it is pointless anyway" No its not. About 50% of the people I know have a puff on a daily basis, and when you look at that nationwide, that's alot of money going in the pockets of criminal dealers. Legalising it is entirely necessary to keep the cash away from gangs. I'd still smoke either way, but without legalisation, I am theoretically perceived as a criminal. And if i was compared to the MPs that are preventing its legalisation, I would consider myself to be on the moral high ground. If I'm a criminal for rolling a spliff, then somebody better start taking care of the arms dealers, pimps and other semi-legal, morally dubious activities.
While I would never condone the use of cannabis to anyone else, I feel it important that it gets a fair press. I have smoked (to rastafarian amounts) since I was about 16, after I started, I became a straight A student. I'm not arguing weed makes you clever, but it can help dissipate all the other stresses that can get in the way of the task in hand. But, on the other hand, 5 a-levels and a uni degree later... i'm still unemployed... only a weed-head could fail to find a job with 44 ucas points and an MA on their CV!
...now, where's that ash-tray?

Wasn't forced too... didn't really want too... mate got some one day... I was feeling stressed so went what the hell and it was good.
Do I smoke it regularly or desperate for more? No... I find it over-rated... and alcohol is FAR worse.
> If you think that, then why is Alcohol so healthy?
Apparently, in moderation, it is. But drink and its toxins can be expelled by the body, as long as you don't drink enough to cause irreversable damage. Whereas smoke in the lungs causes permanent damage.
My mum smoked for 30-odd years, and has been off of them for 3-and-a-half. She's been told if she smokes again, it'll probably kill her. But she is now asthmatic and gets short of breath easily.
Had she been a drinker, as long as no serious damage had been caused, she'd probably be back to normal by now.
I have never smoked, but both parents did. My dad still does. Living with them all those years has also affected my breathing, though obviously to nowhere near the same extent. Which is why I get extremely angry at people who say that passive smoking doesn't cause damage. (Not that you were saying that, Foggy - I was just making the point...)

Of course its not healthy. But its also not healthy to live in Manchester for more than twenty years as car fumes are highest there in the country (or something similar).
I don't smoke, because I know what it has done to my friends, It DOES lead to harder drugs in some cases. I don't wanna be a statistic or anything. I just wanna be me.
