I reckon it should be legalised as it is not addictive and does not lead to harder drugs, although it would be hard for the government to tax.
opinions?
Phil
Sheesh
Cannabis is legalised, killing the black market for the product, but it IS taxed, and taxed heavilly.
Fine, so what if school kids are now smoking a combination of 2 drugs (nicotine and cannabis) whilst also drinking themselves stupid. You obviously don't seem to care.
Who cares also that the precedence set by such a legislative change will almost certainly lead to other drugs being decriminalised, leading to YOUR children taking drug cocktails at lunch time to wish away the monotomy of education, at least you can relax too, which is what matters, right?
So, more people will be smoking the stuff, more people will become addicted to cigarettes, and the government will REAP tax money off you.
With a privatised health service only a few years away, I hope you enjoy paying more for the cigarettes your now addicted to, as well as the weed you lace them with, and pay a higher health insurance premium as a result.
Your choice as you say, and almost all of you will make the wrong choice, and you'll pay through the nose for it. Enjoy your futures, I'm sure I'll enjoy watching people like you suffer for their lack of vision.

so the answer is - nah.
In a government study two years ago, 1 in 5 people on average smoked cannabis on a regular basis, 1 in 3 will try it at some point... In the last election only 1 in 3 people voted, out of that, 1 out of 3 smoked cannabis... It's widley spread, it's no longer taboo in fact most dealers don;t even bother as there's no money to be made in the sale of the stuff anymore due to it's wide spread availability. you could even grow it yourself with the correct knowledge and half a pund of bird seed!
Decriminalisation is definately the way. it was only made illegal in 1975 (typically the year i was born!) and for no real reason other than "so where all of the others"
You can still get heroin on perscription, along with amphetamines, cocaine and morphine, yet cannabis is still illegal?
Decriminalisation won't result in an up surge of people smoking the stuff, but it will reduce the ammount of paperwork the police have to do for minor possession charges, the police have even said this themselves and would prefer to get on with their propper job, stopping crime" than charging people for something that is now concidered "normal"
licensing works in Amsterdam... It's not legal over there, but it has been decriminalised and controlled through licenced premises and has had no knock on effect or a sudden up surge in peope who smoke it. The same model could be used here.
There was only ever 1 recorded death with Cannabis, and that wasn't caused through smoking it. Alcohol claims countless lives every year along with tobacco, yet you can still walk into a shop and equip yourself with the means to kill yourself slowly and surley.
I'll be the first to admit that i smoke ona regular basis, even my boss at work would tell you that as i have no shame in people knowing and to be honest, who doesn't these days... Even my doctor prefers me to smoke the damn stuff instead of taking anti-depressants!
Legalisation will never happen, there's too much to think about and too many people involved. It's not the government that say yeh or neigh, it's the queen, and she say no! Possibly when William gets in it may pass the royal system, but untill then it will never get legalised, but there is a strong argument for decriminalisation.
They've tested this in manchester and London and hopefull soon, the trial will extend to other areas.
I could go on all day about the medical benefits, the current system and why I smoke, but if you remotely clued up on the subject, you'd know yourselves...
My final comment...
Legalisation - NO
Decriminalisation - Yes
Dope is most usually smoked with tobacco...so yes, it is indirectly addictive. I think it'll be legalized soon though, it's no worse than drink in that you can get high (see: 'drunk' in the nearest dictionary).
Apologies if this point's already been made, but...damn, there's four pages of posts to wade through.
