Personally, as an owner of a PS2 and an Xbox, and a soon to be owner of a Gamecube, I feel i can weigh up the pros and cons of all next-gen consoles.

PS2:
PROS: Relatively cheap, plays DVDs straight off, good games.
CONS: They still expect you to pay 30 to play 4 player.

XBOX:
PROS: Better graphics than PS2, built in hard drive, "soundtrack" option, 4 controller ports.
CONS: They still expect you to pay 30 quid to play DVDs.

GAMECUBE:
PROS: It's Nintendo, it's designed exclusively for gaming, its really cheap (130 quid)
CONS: It only plays games; no CDs, no DVDs, nothing.

So.. which one should you buy?

I have no idea.

But, the PS2 is fashionable, the Xox is powerful, and the Gamecube is small, and cute.

The best thing to do is go to a computer store, and play them. Or, wait till a mate gets one, play it, and compare to your other mates.

Or, buy all three. Trust me, that's better.

But...
What do you think?

True.
But what games do *you* enjoy?
As in what titles do you enjoy playing?

I'm just interested, I can see that GTA3 might not be your thing and I'm interested as to the games you have and enjoy.

I enjoy most genres of game, with the exception of Monkey Islandesque adventure games, which just don't do it for me.

A good game needs gameplay, and lastability. Anything else is essentially window dressing, or a "bonus"

Thanks for reading my 1 year speech thing btw :-)

but I have to disagree with you there, Grand Theft Auto 3 is a fantastic game, I mean where else have you seen such a fantastic world thats completly interactive. You can walk anywhere, fly anywhere, drive anywhere and do anything just be prepared to face the consequences. GTA3 is the best ganster game ever however I still think it's popularity owes a little to people's tendency to go on a rampage ;-)

So what, Mr Bartender, constitutes a good game for you?

Just as well, for if you did, your love would be unrequitted, as I certainly could never reciprocate the feeling.

And i'm not "dissing" the consoles. But it has to be said that the PS2 doesn't have nearly half the appeal of it's predecessor, and the X-Box has yet to really prove itself.

The Xbox isn't exactly flat on top. The PS2 is, but a thing of beauty such as the Gamecude should not be made to stand on the PS2's more... rugged pysique.
