Personally, as an owner of a PS2 and an Xbox, and a soon to be owner of a Gamecube, I feel i can weigh up the pros and cons of all next-gen consoles.

PS2:
PROS: Relatively cheap, plays DVDs straight off, good games.
CONS: They still expect you to pay 30 to play 4 player.

XBOX:
PROS: Better graphics than PS2, built in hard drive, "soundtrack" option, 4 controller ports.
CONS: They still expect you to pay 30 quid to play DVDs.

GAMECUBE:
PROS: It's Nintendo, it's designed exclusively for gaming, its really cheap (130 quid)
CONS: It only plays games; no CDs, no DVDs, nothing.

So.. which one should you buy?

I have no idea.

But, the PS2 is fashionable, the Xox is powerful, and the Gamecube is small, and cute.

The best thing to do is go to a computer store, and play them. Or, wait till a mate gets one, play it, and compare to your other mates.

Or, buy all three. Trust me, that's better.

But...
What do you think?

When I got my PS2, I loaned my PlayStation to my brother.

And I still play my N64. I played it yesterday, as a matter of fact.

I don't mind flight sims, i was addicted to Stealth Fighter on my C64 as a child, and have torn my way through the X-Wing series. Haven't played Sturmovik, but I've noticed some of the reviews.

Ah an RTS man eh?

Same here, although must admit they've been getting a little samey of late.
Someone recommended IL2 Sturmovik to me, not being a flight-sim man I hesitated but it rocks the casbah.

OK, at the moment, I've been re-playing Final Fantasy, Shogun:Total War The mongol Invasion, and Homeworld, while also going through Warrior Kings.

I still regularly play Super Mario Kart and ISS on my SNES too.

I have to say I'm very much a strategy gamer. Being a lover of both real time, and turn based strategy, hence my love of games like Warcraft II(and III beta :P) Starcraft, Age of Wonders, Shogun etc. But almost any type of game can turn me on, if it has the right ingredients.

I played Elite for sleepless nights as a teen, and have devoted many an hour to Bust a Move and the like.

BTW, this isn't a console wars topic. It is a topic where people can offer their own opinions on the next gen systems.

I was just joking.

And answer Goatboy, before he gets bored and goes off to find a Welshman.

well, you can't really judge a console on the basis of one game. to do so would be folly.
