Just reading the comments from various people around F1 about the halo device it seems to have really polarised opinions.

Nicky Lauda and Damon Hill have been really vocal against it, but the current drivers seem to be in favour. Whether this is because they don't want to rock the boat or not I don't know, but I certainly wouldn't want to drive a car at over 200mph with that thing stuck in front and around me.

Not the best thing to happen when you're driving a car at 200+mph.

I wasn't best pleased when I heard that news, either. It looks terrible and doesn't seem to enhance safety enough to warrant the issues it creates.

Ferrari are trying to get Vettel to sign a 3-year contract extension as his deal ends at the end of this season. Whether he'd want to commit for 3 years is debatable and Mercedes are apparently keeping an eye on the situation.

Get in there!

Hamilton wins the British GP, Vettel limps home in 7th, meaning Hamilton is now only 1 point behind him in the championship.

A superb drive from Hamilton and it never looked like anything but a win for him.

Roll on Hungary!

An excellent lap from Hamilton puts him on pole, a massive half a second ahead of Raikkonen and 0.756 seconds ahead of Vetel.

Bottas was 4th but with his grid penalty will start in 9th.

If qualifying is anything to go by, and Mercedes get their race strategy right, Hamilton is a sure fire winner.

Bottas has a 5-place grid penalty for the British GP due to an engine change, so the best he can start is in 6th place.

It's a shame as he's been doing so well recently and his car has let him down, however he's a class driver and I think he'll still finish in the top 4.

It's as you were in 2nd Practice, Bottas and Hamilton 1-2 and Raikkonen and Vettel 3-4, although this time the gaps were down to 3/10 and 5/10 of a second to the Ferraris.

If Hamilton wins this weekend he will be joint top of British drivers winning the British GP along with Jim Clark, with 5 wins each.

Bottas ahead of Hamilton in 1st Practice with the Ferrari's a full second behind, which was a surprise as they were on the grippier tyres and on Sky Sports News this morning they said the track will suit the Ferrari's better than the Mercedes.

2nd Practice is underway at the minute, we'll have to wait and see if there's a reverse in the results or if Mercedes can stay in the lead.

First practice is underway in Austria, round 2 in the Hamilton vs Vettel saga has begun.

Hamilton has "accepted" an apology from Vettel, whether he means it or not is another thing.
