The "Freeola Customer Forum" forum, which includes Retro Game Reviews, has been archived and is now read-only. You cannot post here or create a new thread or review on this forum.
“However, the forum is just being "used". Where as forums like the FOG are ever-popular, with people visiting regularly and generally having fun, the Web Design forum is merely being "used" for question and such like. Well, no longer! I want to turn this forum into a proper community.”
He is right here, this forum is only really used by people wanting questions answered, but I think that this forum is probably the best on the site. Mainly because nearly everyone in here knows what they are talking about. But I don’t like how the forum is used just for questions.
So here is what I propose, we use this thread for general chat. Not just web design, anything at all. Since not many people pass through this forum anymore, it won’t get spammed up too much, it’ll just be a place where people can go to be themselves.
If it doesn’t work, then fine. I just think this thread will be able to make this forum more of a community.
So… what’s up everyone? :0)
First, you need a DOS boot floppy. Windows will make you one. Slot it in yor floppy drive and boot.
Run "fdisk". This will let you happily format your hard drive. Delete all the partitions you have on the drive. Now, create a new primary DOS partition, leaving some space for your Linux drive. About 5 gigs is adequate. Let fdisk to its formatting thing, and reboot. Install Win2K on this partition.
Then, you need to install Linux. I'll let Luke take you through that because with 2K it's a bit akward(sp) because of Win2K's bootloader. He's done it with XP, so he knows what to do.
I'm in the process of cleaning my computer upstairs up ready for it to be formatted. I'm doing this because basically, I want to run Win 2k and Linux on the machine. Win 2k ain't a problem, but Linux is because I ain't got a clue about it. So really, I wouldn't mind someone telling me how I should go about doing this because my Dad thinks he knows, but if I let him do it, he'll probably bodge it all up.
> Do you mean he hosts it on a normal connection or has he got ADSL???
> Who's he connected with???
He's on NTL World cable.
I think making your own servers is a good idea, saves quite a bit of money if you host your own websites.
clients eh? nice.
> Yeah, silly guy having such a slow modem, what was he thinking?
Well sometimes it can be slow compared to a proper host who may have 100mbps of upload!
> PHP, MySQL, FTP, the lot..
cool, and you don't pay him anything? :)
although it can be a little slow as its only a 128k up connection.
Yeah, silly guy having such a slow modem, what was he thinking?
also, that philz.net seemed pretty good untilthey deleted your whole website :(
I still think netfirms is pap though, they can't show images for some reason or any file over 266k
*Gives www.philez.net a dirty look*
Idiots.
I would probably host on Freeola, but I'm not to keen on the whole dial up to upload principle.
