It may clearly be the BEST EVER for quality of games, but there is no point in all the games if the thing don't work.
From day 1 Sony have had to make constant changes to there little bundle of joy.
EVERY ONE i know with a playstation has had a least one problem with it. The common one being a piece of plastice flying off the middle.
By PSX does all of this, over heat, crash, bits of plastic braking off, works slow, can't read CD probley, etc. But the worst thing is i have NEVER cause any damage to the playstation or CDs. The only reason for these problems is cheap components.
Oh and guess what... I phoned up sony and they wanted £40 and my working (just) playstation for a recondintioned one, CHEEK, i could by a brand new one for £70 in specail reserve.
ANY WAY...all i really want is for sony to use better quality parts in the PSX2 'cause i am tired with th PSX being so cheap....
AND TO THE DELEVOPERS, good work keep it up y'all
2. I actually prefer the Playstation controller to the N64 one although that is because I am used to using it. My sisters have an N64 and with the exception of games like Turok and Goldeneye, I find the controller makes the games more difficult. Driving games are probably the best genre on the playstation and I personally think the the PSX pad is best for these. I find that the N64 analogue stick is too light to get a good level of control. This is all my opinion though, and as I don't play on the N64 all that much I am far more used to the PSX controller which is probably why I find it easier.
3.Like I said, PSX isn't much of a multiplayer console and this is shown by the types of game that sell best i.e. Metal Gear Solid, Gran Turismo 2, Colin McRae, WWF Smackdown etc. They usually don't support multiplayer at all or only have 2 player options. The Playstation has much better 1 player games than it has multiplayer ones.
4. Tomorrow Never Dies isn't a very good choice of game (I think anyway) It only got 5/10 in PSM and I don't know why people compare it to Goldeneye - its definately not a Rare game. The thing about the PSX is that it has lots of good games which are fairly long, whereas the N64 has only a couple which are superb. Because CD's tend to be alot cheaper you can get a big collection of good games and have a varied collection of gaming styles. This way the games might not be so big (with the exception of Final Fantasy 8)but you can have a mixture of lots of different games which is what I like (I get bored if i just play one type of game constantly)
5.There are some games such as Medal of Honour which are very good shoot em ups with 2 player multiplayer and are worth buying but generally, as you say, PSX games don't usually have very good multiplayer, at least not compared to what Perfect Dark will be when it is finally released.
6. Football games are another thing that the PSX seems to have lots of. Euro 2000 is a ripoff as it is just Fifa 2000 repeated (although Fifa is a good game) ISS 98 is just as good as the N64 version (I have played both) and ISS Evolution is a considerable improvement on that too. Also LMA manager is an excellent football game and there are several other good management games out there as well.
7. PSX developers tend to be getting the message now that First person is better. Alien resurrection was first made as a third person shooter but was completely redesigned as a first person game. There is also Medal of Honour Underground - the sequel to MOH which is another first person shooter. Another game I can remember is Time Crisis Alpha (or whatever they've changed its name to now) which is another sequel. These are all good games offering different perspectives on shoot-em-ups but whereas PSX has this mixture of styles, the N64 has Perfect Dark which will probably cover all 3 and more. That is, like I said, the difference between the two consoles.
I hope this has helped you (Sorry if its too long) and I am pleased to see that there is at least one N64 owner that does not act like an idiot around here)
