XboxLive-gonna be great, we all want it, gonna all play each other blah blah blah. But I'm not 100% sure about all the technical mumbo jumbo, so I'd like to say, hold on a momnet.

I mentioned Broadband to my Dad a few weeks ago and told him the other night that Freeserve were doing a deal- £85 for all the equipment and FREE line registration worth £65. "good stuff" he said.

Now, this is where I'm getting worried. Looking through an old edition of Xgamer it had a broadband feature, and it came to USB modems, something which Freeserve broadband use. Xgamer only said "make sure the broadband modem you get has an ethernet port to be compatable with your Xbox." The picture beside this statement shows a green USB modem which i'm certain is the Freeserve one.

I go on to check btbroadband online, and it too uses ADSL with a usb modem. I check the broadband availablitity for my area and it says I might be able to get it. Hmmmm however NO MENTION OF AN ETHERNET PORT...

Please, someone who knows technical stuff inside out(Nomad, Tom ect) could you tell me if a USB modem can be made plug into an xbox, perhaps through buying an aditional connecter or something. Xbox Live doesn't nessicaraly require you to upgrade your line and get some dude into to know holes in your wall, does it? ADSL doesn't need that, right?

It would be a disaster if XboxLive could not be playable on through this.

Microsoft and BT will have something up their sleeve.

I have NTL Broadband, It has a USB and an ethernet port on the back. The USB is being used for the PC internet, Is it possible to plug Xbox Live in the ethernetport on the back of the modem?

Can you just plug your Xbox into a router and then plug the router into your ADSL socket on the wall?

Extras extras extras, which most people don't understand.

I'm sorry, this topic has really opened my eyes to how many things are stacked against XboxLive becoming a sucess. Hardly anyone has broadband, Xbox isn't very sucessful sales wise so far, ADSL is in my view is way to complicated to set up to be an acceptable way to play xbox online(if you have to get a PC involved many peple will just think why don't you just play games on the PC in the first place), if I had to get my PC involved it would require me to change all my furnature around as my Xbox and PC are in comletely opposite ends of the house.

Thi does not look good.

Do you even get the flippin crossover cable in the starter pack or do they presume you already have it?

I though Xbox live would be a breeze like it always said. Bring back the DC. :)

Not really that sure on networks. But hubs don't give each machine a separate IP address, do they? Xbox needs a unique IP address.

Ahh well, *smug mode* my setup works, and I've already played many games of halo against people. Role on Live.

It mentions Windows ICS set up which says should be used if you have a USB modem. But that needs to get a PC involved which is a Disaster!!!

Like Adrian said, I think they're leaving us BT customers out a bit right now, as Cable customers won't have a problem.

Give them time, I'm sure they'll clear everything up.
