Here's the scene
Today I was in GAME and this guy was advising some customer on which console to buy and roughly this is what he said.
PS2 - Most popular and BEST new console, plays DVD, CD's blah blah blah holds the GTA series and the new Vice city is out soon etc....
X-Box - The PS2's ONLY real competitor also plays DVD's, CD's blah blah blah features games such as Halo etc etc
Gamecube - People only buy these if they're a fan of Nintendo, you either love them or hate them, don't really compete with the PS2 and X-Box, a good choice if young children are going to play too, features games like Mario etc....
What the hell!? This is completely true and that is more or less the exact words the guy said, shocking! How are Nintendo supposed to sell when they get reviews like that from the people selling the console? I felt like jumping in the middle of the agreeing guy who was taking it all in and prove that sucker wrong (or something).
If I worked at GAME
*Shakes fist
*laughs*
*runs*
So 2 guys in there 20's were playing on Bloodwake and the assistant starting saying to them "XBox is alot more mature than PS2. PS2 has childish games like Woody Wood Pecker. If you want more violent games then the XBox has it". Strange him saying PS2 is kiddy with games like GTA3 and State Of Emergency being released.
I bet that the same guy was saying "Game Cube is a much better console than XBox and PS2 as its a Nintendo console. Nintendo = fun" nearer the GC launch date.
So really the moral of this story is, Dont listen to anyone in games stores. Most of them now jack about games and only want to sell you what they are told to sell. E.g get as many XBox pre-orders as possible.
I reccomend the console that suits the customer the most - so if a customer prefers games that are PS2 exclusive, I will, despite hating myself for it (slight exaggeration there), reccomend the PS2. It just all depends on the customer and what information the customer decides to give me.
As for the age - it doesn't matter what type of job you're going for, whether permanent or temp, you have to be 17 or above. How do I know? Because I went for an interview for a permanent job there and was asked for an interview at another Game store in Cardiff too.
He went off with his facts and figures boring the guy half to death not realising that specs don't really sell consoles.
If I ever see him saying things like this again....
"OI! YOU NO! GAMECUBES ARE CUBES AND THERE STAYING CUBED FOR EVER"
The I would hit him with a wet fish till he cries and asks for his mother, and better yet I will make him trap his little pecker in the sliding tray of a PS2 and see how he likes that. Then I will beat him to death with his shameful name tag.
