There has been a lot of post's already about the new game but thought I'd add mine here. I wont go into all the stuff about team / player names and stuff cos that's all been done before - but why LOSS TIME ? what's wrong with Injury Time as in previous versions ?
Loaded up and went straight into an International game - easy setting England against Greece just to get used to the new feel etc. Won the game 12-0. .... 12-0 ? ok it was the easy setting but come on - how easy does it have to be ? Give Owen the ball and he just ghosts past eveyone and never misses. Hmmm..
Then moved up to medium difficulty and I must say it improved dramatically . 2-2 draw with the same teams. ( I won on penalties !)
Again moved up to the top level and lost first game 2-1. won the second game 2-1. Much more like it with the gameplay becoming much harder and the results becoming more realistic - England losing to Greece ? definately !
Some of the new animations are very sweet but I'm not sure about the trail that hangs off the edge of the ball when you shoot - that's a bit Fifa-ish to me. Commentary - though improved still misses out in many places. I was also hoping that they would do something to make the control more immediate. I still don't like the fact that you can hit the shoot button but the player will take another stride before reacting by which time it can be too late.
It also feels a bit clunky compared to Tif 2003. I think that Konami could improve the game by having the camera higher like in Tif so that you can actually have a better view of the action - there are times when you think you are passing forward to a player in PES2 and there is no-one there because the player is moving to a different position.
I think - though maybe it due to over familiarity with the control method etc - that PES is becoming too easy to play now, yes there are sopme new moves to get the hang off and some new button combinations etc but the game does seem alot easier to win at than the current version of TIF.
I think that many people have become too enamoured by PES and have just assumed that it will always rule over the opposition. To me - it is still a great game and I will spend hours playing on it but I personally think that TIF and PES now have an equal standing as joint leaders in the football games stakes. Konami need to do some radical overhauling to lift PES once more away from it's competitors.
The year 2003. Natbuc buys TIF 2003. Natbuc is surprised other people buy TIF 2003. Natbuc is happy people actually like it, some more than PES2. Natbuc has the last laugh.
As much as I like TIF 2003, I can't help but say that PES2 is a better game overall - some of my mates disagree with me there, but I don't just like it because it's meant to be the best - I like it because I enjoy playing what I feel is the best football game around, and to me that game is PES2. Ok, so there are flaws aplenty:
- No Club Team names.
- Half the players not licensed either.
- Sometimes just far too unrealistic
- Fairly annoying commentary.
- Not very many Clubs, although there's an improvement on PES.
- Free Kicks just simply too hard
- 5 Star can be easy once you've played for a while
- Still a weird Transfer System in the Master League.
There are plenty of other flaws too, but really, there are a fair few in both TIF 2003 and FIFA 2003 as well. People just tend to point the ones in PES2 out because it is a more popular game and they're jealous. :-D Nah, but really, PES2 is the god amongst football games.
> TIF 2003 is severely lacking in gameplay.
?!?!
Mind you, you also thinnk that Ratchet 7 Clank is a poor game, so...
;-)
I personally find TIF plays a a mighty fine game of footy. My only gripe originally was that there is a huge difference between Easy and Normal - but I'm getting to grips with it!
> Pro Evo 2 vs Fifa 2003 vs TIF2003... not again and again and
> again...
No not really - but why not anyway ? these three games are obvious competitiors with one another, they have all just been released so why not compare them ?
The basic premise of this post is that PES2 has not moved forward enough from PES - indeed it has almost moved backwards.
> I prefer Fifa and thats that...
Good on you for saying so and that's entirely up to you - what's the point if we can't have opinions of our own ?
Being a great footie fan and (to be honest) a Fifa gamer, I rented Fifa 2003 and Pro Evo 2 (just to make sure) and played the demo of TIF2003.
To be honest, I think Fifa has made enourmous ground on Pro Evo and TIF was a great alternative but not football at its best.
Fifa has revamped its whole game and is the best in the Fifa series. Players are accurate the ball is infact a ball and the whole AI is fantastic.
Pro Evo on the other hand hasn't really improved that much, still a great football game but... lacks in various places, not many real players, not a lot of teams, commentary:well we all know!!!
I prefer Fifa and thats that...

Why?
Started with PES2 and played Europoort Vs Highlands.
What I find difficult is to ignore the stupid names etc.
Why do you get Owen ok and then Hench and Bagel playing with him ? And how annoying is it to hear comments like " and Europoort were unluck there " what must Brackley have felt when he was doing the commentary ? " And he's really blasted that one - and It's gone over the bar " followed straight away by " he didn't really get any power behind that shot " wtf!?
The game itself is great to play - dont get me wrong but I think the poor commentry and the shoddy names etc detiriorate drastically from the overall playing experience.
I then loaded up TIF2003 and played Liverpool Vs Newcastle (who ?) - oh no I should have put that against the PES2 version..
Basically although some PES2 fan boys might knock the fact that it is not PES2 the game gives just as tough a game of football but with the extra dimension of "enjoyment". It really is to me a more enjoyable game to play. Controversially I also think that PES is more enjoyable to play then PES2.
Hell, I'd rather buy
> FIFA2003 than PES2 - and you can't get any more damning than that.
Easy now, thats going a little far!
I dont think its right to judge the game so harshly after playing it for only a single day.
I had the same sort of reaction as you with ISS2 (on GameCube)when I first played it. Complete crap at first, but after I got the hang of it I was hooked, and found it to be quite a quality game.
As for the Pro evo series...The interface and design has always been a joke. They seem to have taken it a little too far though this time. I'm not too bothered about player and team names. I know who they all are so it doesnt matter too much. I'm still loving PES2, probably more so than PES1. I've nearly finished my 2nd season of Master League with Dortmund (2-1!!!!) and totally loving it. Master League was the only thing I used PES for, and it has been improved dramitically in PES2...With cup games to go along with with the league games as one of my fave additions.
"Now, lets take a look at this incident"
"This incident completely changed the course of the match"
"Oh, he should have scored that incident, NUMBER 23!"
"Whats this incident? DONI! Should have done better there"
Trevor talking over the top- "Oh thats terrible"
"Onto the next incident. REBROV! Scores the first"
Ect ect.
