Goatboy's excellent thread on this game has got a lot of people thinking it seems. Maybe we should do something about it. Someone suggested it at the time, but why not ask Special Reserve not to sell it?

I don't believe in censorship, but I do believe in choice and that your choices say a lot about your character. We have a choice not to buy the game. Special Reserve have a choice not to sell and profit from it. So if you would rather SR didn't sell Hooligan then make your feelings known here.

(By the way, this isn't some anti-SR thing: great company, good value, nice forums. But we ALL need to take a stand against fascism, even as 'entertainment'.)

Don't people see that all this controversy is just giving the developers what they want? Free advertising.

If you find it offensive then don't talk about it and don't buy it, because in the end, you all sound like a load of Daily Mail readers if you keep going on about it.

I think we all can actually ! Armitage is saying he has the right to choose, for example, whether or not to buy pornography yes ? But within what is caleld pornography there is content that is deemed acceptable and unacceptable - as shown by the FBI's Operation Candyman, may they get every last one of those sick people....

This is the same thing. It is not accepatable and those who would buy it would, more than likely, have ideas which are not acceptable. If someone were to profit from illegal pornography then every right minded person would condemn them. Any shop selling this game is profiting from the very same thing that led to millions of deaths across Europe so many years ago.

It isn't right, it isn't acceptable, and a line has to be drawn at some point as to what gamers wish to see in videogames.

Nazism isnt socially acceptable across the majority of the planet, so if a game is allowed that promotes it what other not socially acceptable topics should be covered ? Sim-genocide anyone ? After all it's only a game......

Wrong, hooligan is going beyond what a game should be and do.

No but I can politely request that they stop selling a game that actively promotes and encourages Nazi idealism.

This isn't about the game being violent, this isn't about the game being a bit dubious morally.

This is about not allowing Fascist material to be used as entertainment.

SOE and GTA3 are in no way comparable to Hooligans. This is a game about fascism, pure and simple. I - and others - have every right to ask somewhere to stop selling it, just as they have every right to ignore us. But what message does that send out? Profiting from hatred is disgraceful.

I agree with Shanksy.

You can't request that they stop selling a game because you disagree with the content. By expansion, you then have to request that they stop selling SOE, GTA3 and other similar games, which other groups find equally offensive.

Yep, you're old enough to decide whether you want to buy pornography or not. But Special Reserve are old enough to decide whether they profit from a game promoting fascism or not. And we're old enough to draw our own conclusions from their willingness to do so.
