About 10 years ago I was introduced to a game called Quest. It's an RPG PBM (that's Play-By-Mail), you would create this party of 6 characters and venture around this world doing the usual RPG stuff. To play the game you had to post orders on what you wanted your party to do. It involved using letters and numbers so it looked a bit confusing (ex. M 3334). After they received your orders and processed it, they would send you the results of what happened and then you would send in more orders.

It was fun, I enjoyed it. Made a few friends and at one time use to get 15 letters a day. I think I might have been geekier than Rosalind back then (don't worry she wont read this heh) This was before everyone had the internet and mobile phones were still brickish.

I eventually tired of the game and by that I mean I just couldnt afford it. £2.something per turn was just too much. They've moved onto the internet now so turns are processed by email and so everything is a lot quicker than it use to be.

Well anyway, my reason for starting this thread and telling you about all this is because they offer a free demo. That's 20 free turns to play with. So I thought "what the hell" and so I'm now setting up a party for you guys on Freeola :) I'll sort out all the orders and results etc, you guys just create the characters, help decide some orders and enjoy reading what happens :D

----

Okay first we need 6 characters, I'll take one, pb and Kawada you two are playing too :), so that leaves 3 characters left. I didn't want to force anyone else to play so if you would like to join please do. Little effort or time is needed so come on. :) if no one else joins I'll just pick some people and use their names anyway heh.

If you would like to play and Kawada and pb you'll have to do this too. Could you please do the following;

1. Name your character (you could use your username)
2. Choose a race for your character
3. Choose a class for your character

Unfortunately we can only have 1 of each, so no 2 human fighters etc.

Suggestions : I can't remember everything but what I can recall was that it's best to only have 1 thief and halfbloods make the best ones. Dwarfs are good fighters, elves are good mages, you get the idea. Just be whoever or whatever you want really :)

I'll post a description about each race and class so you can decide.

----

Party Name : Ivalice Force

1. Prime Halfblood Fighter (Machie)
2. Boulder / Dwarf Fighter (pb)
3. Robin Human Thief (Kawada)
4. Echo / Elf Priest (Vexxxed)
5. Ambaria Narseek / Elf Mage (snake11)
6. Dead Spiders / Human Priest (Mumbai Duck)

I did a thing once, and I came up with a name I liked.
You needed a second name so:

An elvin mage called Ambaria Narseek.

Is that bad? I'll change it if it is.

How much of my time is this likely to take up?

I'm interested, but not sure about paying for it later down the line.

Dead Spiders, Human Priest (Paladin)

If you don't mind my limited commitment!

Here's the list of gods, we can either pray to one god, pray to them all or whatever. The closer you are to a god the better and more powerful the miracles are. Each god has different miracles.

1. BALDOR, Lord of Healing - good

Baldor is a kind God and his priest must always be prepared to provide aid to the weak and the sick. Followers of Baldor are greatly respected by common folk and because of their alignment are often called upon as judges in non-religious disputes.

2. GARTHRANA, The Avenger - vengeance

Garthrana is a goddess of vengeance against evil. Although of good alignment she is war-like and prone to great rage especially against the followers of the evil gods. Her followers must campaign constantly against the evil creatures of the wilderness.

3. SUNDONAK, Warrior Lord - war

The god of war is worshipped by soldiers throughout Kharne. Courage and honour are highly valued while cowardice and treachery will earn his eternal contempt. His followers believe that there is no greater honour than to die in battle.

4. FLEYSHUR, The Destroyer - death

A god of devastation and violence. Fleyshur delights in conflict and battle. While he does not object to slaughter, he prefers a more even battle, where both sides take damage.

5. YTHCAL, Lord of Death - evil

Less violent than Fleyshur but evil to the core. He likes pain and death. Ythcal is probably the most feared of the gods, and his followers are usually shunned by all other priests. His followers are encouraged to injure and kill whenever they get a chance.

7. NOVALA, Lady of Fortune - luck

Novala is the queen of trickery, wilfulness and deceit, worshipped by thieves, charlatans and lovers. She often acts on a whim, sometimes to aid, sometimes to hinder. Her followers are natural suspects whenever a robbery or swindle has occurred.

8. PHYLOQURE, Master of Scrolls - knowledge

A god of knowledge and wisdom. He believes that knowledge will always overcome ignorance in the end and that violence is folly of the worst kind. Scholars have found that study and research come easiest to Phyloqure worshipers.

Yes there's a lot you can do, one thing I forgot about was the Priests and the Gods. I think there are 8 Gods and whatever our party does will either push or pull you towards those gods. For instance if we go around killing innocent people then we're drawn to the more darker gods than those that are good. The gods give the priests miracles or spells and they can come in very handy. We can also pray to gods and using their miracles will bring us closer to them.

I'd love to get some more people involved as I know once it gets going it'll be fun to read and take part. Bound to get lots of lurkers. If lots of people wanted to play I even thought about doing a second team. But looks like there isnt enough interest at the moment :(

So anyone else interested please join in :) think of a name for your character, a race and a class. If you need suggestions umm a halfblood thief, a human fighter, an elf fighter, a human thief, a dwarf priest. Up to you :)

lol, I think if we're to steal from a shop half our group would be near death and as the priest you'll ahve to heal everyone ;D

Freeola Massive, maybe that can be our battle cry, oh I forgot to mention that. I think they still do it. We're able to add in a battle cry that we'll shout when we attack anything.

For food we can buy some but we could also just send out our theif to go catch something :)

Okay once we have 6 players I'll enter in all the information and they'll send our "results" straight away. It'll show us a map of our location. Which will display who or what is in the area. You tend to always start in a town or city, so there will be lists of shops and what they sell.

We'll have a set amount of money which we'll share and will probably have to spend our next turn buying some armour and weapons because you start with very little.

Oh I forgot we still have to think of a name for our party. In the past my last party were called "The Dwarfers" that's right I named all my players after Red Dwarf. heh.

After we've bought some stuff we can wander around, attack stuff, steal from ogres, perhaps even steal from some shops. Not the banks though, that's suicide.
