Anyone else think that America can be egotistical a lot of the time? I mean, I think that many Americans think that they're better than us, and that the 'good ol US of A' is any better than Britain. Is it just me, or do they have a different word for everything? Is it because they have to be better than us, or is it just for the sake of it, or something else? I'm stumped, so a little help here is appreciated.
How about ignorance of Americans in the media? A good example of this is Demolition Man. At an awards ceremony, Wesley Snipes and Sylvester Stallone ignored Nigel Hawthorne, a co-actor in the film. Did I mention that he was british?
Do Americans think of us as posh? In television, I see a helluva lot of prejudiced or hilarity at the expense of us, as we are portrayed as crumpet eating, tea drinking people who are completely shielded from the bad matters of the world.
My friend has just come back from Florida, and he had the following conversion with a cashier in a resturant:
Friend: Hello. I'd like a bottle of water please.
Cashier: A what?
Friend: A bottle of water.
Cashier 2: He means a bottle of water (in American accent)
Cashier: Oh, here you go.
*Hands my friend a 'bottle of water'*
Who actually spoke the English language first - America or England?
I do admire America's patriotism though, something which is somewhat a rarity here, with people too scared to show their traits, because there are so many ethnic minorities in the country now (I dare say it's a bad thing, however).
I'm not keen on America, but I love their taffy :0)
What do you think?

Do we want our country to BECOME America next!? Keep our accent the way it is - America's sucks. America's makes them sound slow and retarded, ours is short and snappy, making us sound more alert and less-drunk.
"See that "Rubbish" was said (no doubt) in an English accent, and it probably sounded dull. But if you were an American you would've said: "GARBAGE!" which would've sounded much better and altogether stronger."
I don't say "GARBAGE!" - it's American. I say "Rubbish".
They do truly believe that they are the greatest nation of earth because that is what they are told by the media and the gov't. The gov't are only interested in being re-elected and this relies on votes that come from people who are blinded by either, the money spent on the campaigns or that some guy on the TV said that America is great under the current president.
You know that during the olypics if one of their athletes comes second they do not report who won the race as it is regarded as of no interest to they general public.
Only a handful of American citizens know that Britain was involved in the Gulf War or even WWII!!!!
I feel sorry for them because they live in a media controlled society almost as frightening as the communist utopia that they were all so scared of back in the Cold War days.
Anyway I've now forgotten what the topic was so I'll finish there!!
This happens to me quite a bit here, but I just accept it and get on with things, same sort of stuff happens in england when I'm "up north".

Surely you mean TRASH? ;)
I understand what you're saying but i also think that we are just as guilty of thinking we are better than the Americans ,and a lot of other countries as well.
Don't get me wrong ,i'm not having a go ,I just think it's slightly unfair that because someone's heard an American joke about the British, they get the hump and turn it into something that it is'nt.
