Why are contact lenses so difficult to put on?

I went for a 'consultation' yesterday.

Putting on contact lenses was vile.

Vile I tell you. Vile.

when I had them on for the first time they were fine... It was putting them on and taking tham off that was a nightmare. The 'there's something in my eye' feeling was there for about 1 minute...

My eyesight is so poor that sticking the first lens onto my eye is a nightmare. I can't see anything, so my face is always jammed against a mirror.

Also I probably make facial contortions like Arnie in Total Recall when he's removing the probe...

First couple of times, it takes a while and you get streamy eyes etc.
After a week of in/out (hur hur) you get used to it.
Still, nothing beats the feeling of whipping them out after a day, having a massive rub (hur hur hur hur) and putting yer specs back on.

Lenses rule if you can get past the initial "something's on my eye" feeling

Contact lenses are ridiculously painful. My eye-person wouldn't let me leave the opticians without trying some on (they costs an arm and a leg, btw). I wasn't gonna buy some, but I thought I'd see what life was like without these geeky rimfests. PPPAAAAIIIIIIINNNNNNNNNNNN!!!!!!!!! They hurt so much. "They hurt Mr eye-man, sir", "Quit squealing, ye vermint".

it took me 1 hour to get them on, then back off.

You will have to learn my master, just keep trying and you will soon see the path of clear vision, LOL.
