Partially, yes. But I am helping Clazon too.
Like I said. I like some of my clean stuff perfect, so I do it direct. Other stuff needs some character and ruggedness as I said. So I route it through the amp. That way, the quality is way higher and there aren't any annoying sounds, just a nice buzzing from the amp. There's the secret to the warmth.

Does it sound much different if you don't use a mic? Because I'm sort of imagining that you lose a warm fuzziness and end up with a horribly cold recording.

Point was, that you don't have to record guitars and stuff through a mic...
