Honestly...
And anyway, get your facts right, it's growling not screaming. Although I admit it is a pretty throaty growl.
It fits the music sooo well though, IMO.
Ooh, I've just found a song I've never listened to.
I'm going to yousendit.
It's not entirely growled... there are some clean vocals too.
They really fuzz the rhythm guitars but they do carry a little bit of melody.
And there's another one called Glories Of The Nightsky.
I really like that one. The intro is very nice.

cba with the other one :( will do it tomorrow... i need sleep.
:)
Or the ones you think have the best intros?
Basically anything without screaming, or that has periods without screaming. Don't mind the bass, drums or to an extent heavy guitar...
A few of their songs have quite nice intros though.
But with the growling, it's just an acquired taste. Really. I used to hate it, but it does grow on you. Not that I'm saying everyone will like it, but you should be able to tolerate it and possibly even appreciate it the more you listen. I started off liking it by listening to a band called Children Of Bodom who did an Iron Maiden cover. They're not exactly hardcore death metal and to be honest I find his voice annoying now, but they were harder than anything I'd heard before, anyway.... while I used to hate the vocals, I kept listening to it because I thought they were really good with their instruments... and just slowly, it grows. Like a parasite.
I was hoping that was what they were like in general.
Have they got any other instrumentals, or songs without screaming, or cool "melody bits" as you put it like the beginning of AOTS?
BUT:
Acquisition Of The Stars is an instrumental, as you found out. And Astriaal are rather aggressive black metal when they get going. Which you may not like. If you want to listen to some stuff, I'm happy to send you something, but be warned, they're all growly and stuff. While their instrumentation is undeniably awesome, you may not be a fan of RARrrrrarrgghhhhgaaarrr gurgle rearrrrggh. I think they're brilliant to be honest, but not everyone digs black metal. However, they are very talented musicians as you can hear in AOTS and they do include some melody for each bit of aggression.
But if you're not used to it, it is intense! what with the vocals and the blastbeats and everything. And their distorted rhythm guitar tone is pretty unfriendly.
So if you want to listen, well, I could mail/yousendit you some songs... you'll have a terrible time trying to find anything on p2p networks, they're not very well known.
And I agree that AOTS should have gone somewhere afterward.
It can't be a bad thing.
But the best Steve Vai quote I've ever seen went something like "The great thing about a 7 string is the low string". Crap, really?
But later on he talked about phase difference :o
