Ladies and Gentlemen, boys and girls, Ninto have mergede with Sega AND Capcom, for those of you not fluent in terms like "merged", then I shall explain, it has been revealed, that nintendo has bought up Sega AND Capcom, therefore, they will never make games for any other consoles then Nintendo's own. This announcement did not surprise me, but now Gamecubes future is indeed looking brighter.

Which would be why the Snes got trashed by the Megadrive, and the N64 died through lack of games ? Oooookay. Fact is this whole story is seeming more and more like utter crap... :P

Problem.

I'm sure Sega set their aim at becoming the biggest games publisher in the world (I think they said publisher, may have been developer...). But anyway. Point is, how can they become the biggest games publisher/developer if they're only releasing games for one console? Being bought by Nintendo would mean only developing for GameCube and GBA. Being bought by MS would mean developing for Xbox and possibly GBA (Rare, despite being owned by MS, are still making GBA games, as the GBA is not seen to compete with the Xbox by MS). Being restricted to one console and a handheld would mean Sega could never become the biggest games publisher in the world. Maybe companies are making deals with Sega for exclusive games, and I'm sure Sega are trying to develop relations with companies. Xbox is getting some exclusive Sega games, as is GameCube, and Sega are developing F-Zero for GC and in the arcades, which either means Sega are developing relations with Nintendo, or Nintendo paid them a fair amount. And I'd suggest the former, considering GC support from such titles as Monkey Ball, Phantasy Star Online, Skies of Arcadia, and Sonic (granted, mostly DC conversions, but DC conversions which aren't available on any of the other current 'Big Three' consoles).

Despite the obvious support for Nintendo Sega display, the fact remains. They can't hope to become the biggest publisher in the world if they're restricted to one console. So if Sega have been bought by anyone (Ninty, MS or even Sony) I'd have to assume it was an aggressive take over, and cost a fair amount.

Long term commitments to Microsoft? Hah! Apart from Dino Crisis 3, which probably won't end up exclusive, they're pretty much neglecting the X-Box! Sony, they do have commitments do, but I think that the company they're closest to now has got to be Nintendo.

You're missing the point. Everyone got scared when Microsoft bought out Rare, as they were supposed to be the first of many. Quite frankly, Microsoft have given nothing to the world of console gaming, and for them to come and take it over using thier deep pockets would be just not right.

Nintendo, however, have given more than any other company yet - so if they want to splash a bit of cash around, who cares? They're not going to take over the industry after all, as Microsoft hinted at when they said that they were on a 'developer shopping spree'.

Imagine if Nintendo did win the court case against SONY though...
They'd probably be even richer than Microsoft!!

And whether it's true or not, buying both Capcom AND SEGA would be a fantastic thing for Nintendo to show to all-others that they really mean business.

Heres is the real big annoucment.

TOKYO, Japan (Reuters) -- Japanese game software maker Nintendo Co. Ltd., known for its blockbuster "Mario," "Zelda" and "Pokemon" franchises, and San Jose-based BAM! Entertainment, maker of "The Powerpuff Girls: Mojo Jojo A-Go-Go", said on Monday they will merge to help fight off intense competition.

A joint statement released by the two companies revealed the deal would be worth about $15.75 based on BAM!'s pre-announcement share price.

The pact comes as video game software makers are facing rising development costs to create games for advanced systems such as Sony Corp.'s PlayStation 2 and Microsoft Corp's Xbox in a heavily saturated market.

The new firm, dubbed Bamtendo!, will operate out of Hawaiian headquarters once occupied by Japanese publisher and one-time movie studio Square.

Square announced a merger with fellow Japanese game software maker Enix last week.

'Going on the offensive'

With Sony and Microsoft both gearing up online game services, software publishers are also feeling pressure to develop costly network games to pave the way for future growth.

"We're going on the offensive with this merger. I'm confident I can buck tradition and keep this company afloat by leaving all actual business decisions to my pet monkey, Suzuki-kun," said BAM! President Bernie Stolar, who will become president of the new firm.

Stolar told reporters that BAM! had a leading position in the license-driven crap market as well as strong name recognition in South Dakota and amongst his son's schoolmates, while Nintendo had been successfully operating in the console and handheld business for over 20 years.

'******* impact'

"The deal is relaxing and pretty. It is the MEGA-TON with the utmost significance. The control is of the cancer dam and does not apologize lightly. I feel good," said Michinobu Hamamura, editor of Weekly Famitsu magazine.

Other analysts agreed that the merger seems a perfect fit.

"BAM! outsources game development and has few in-house creators, while Nintendo does everything by itself. The combination of the two provides no negative factors but would bring little in the way of operational synergies," said James Mielke, an editor at Ziff-Davis Media.

"Frankly, I think this grandizzle shizzle is the wizzle on my nizzle, yo. You got that shizzat, bro?"

Frantic trading

News of the merger sparked shares in both firms up sharply, with Nintendo stock up 16.9 percent at the close of morning trading in Tokyo to 15313.9 yen.

Shares in BAM! shot up a phenomenal 684 percent, or $1.50, on the West Tulsa Agriculture & Manufacturing Index, with the markets giving a strong thumbs-up to the merger plans.

Sega Corp.'s chief operating officer, Tetsu Kayama, has forecast more consolidations in the industry as many small firms cannot afford rising development costs.

In the six months to September, Japanese game software sales fell 13 percent to 114 billion yen despite growth in sales of the three major home game consoles, according to game magazine publisher Enterbrain.

Actually, on the Bloomberg machine at a contacts offices there have been some serious changes and news reports of 'Sega and NOJapan talks' and also the share prices in Nintendo of Japan have greatly risen. However that was a few days back when I asked.... not sure since.?!

I've yet to see a shred of official evidence for this - the mosaic looks good, but I've spent all week examining Windows Longhorn screenshots that are as outstanding as they are (apparantly) faked, so I'm not taking anything for granted. Nintendo.com has nothing on it, but that's hardly a shock is it.

1) The ninty legal case against Sony is rubbish. Here's what I posted on it in Prime:

"Firstly, all the links you provide except one are forums no different to this. In fact, some of them just quote from each other. Just. Like. This. Topic.

"This smells suspiciously like another internet rumour to me. Indeed, just looking at it from a legal viewpoint, Nintendo could not take the name "Playstation" simply because the brand has become synonymous with Sony. This "source" even goes as far as saying that Sony will have to rename their console - Ha! What garbage. The only way Nintendo could make big wins from such a case would be to prove that Sony have stolen some technology from them... which they clearly can't.

"As a result, the only thing that nintendo could possibly have on Sony is breaking a contract almost a decade ago. However, the issue of who broke it off, and who was to blame, is so confused that I don't expect a case soon."

2) Although there are strong rumours about Sega being sold (big share price changes), if the only news about Nintendo's involvement is from some forum like this, then I'll keep an open mind.
