According to sources, Nintendo is almost assured a victory, gaining all the profit's made by Sony off the Playstation since its introduction in 1996. Even if Nintendo do not win outright, they are guaranteed the rights to the Playstation name, and Sony will have to immediatley change the name of their console."
This is what will make Nintendo systems go flying from the shelves people. The "Nintendo Playstation," people won't know the difference, unsuspecting customers everywhere will be buying Nintendo, thinking that it's Sony. Sony is in a world of hurt."

If it turns out to be true, I would let out one big and very long HAAAA at all you Sony fans.
> Vice city on the cube, please God please!
No way in Hell!
The profits so far of the PlayStation franchise are estimated to be £20 trillion. Very tasty sum. *cough* BUY BACK RARE!!!*cough*
However if Nintendo do decide to take to court instead of agreeing to something outside court. It could be very interesting to see Sony hand over profits from the actual Playstation name (which would be in the billions now'. Infact, if Nintendo wanted to, and if I was Nintendo and all this were true. I would rename the Gamecube the Playstation 3.
:D
Keep us informed.
That's the picture they were talking about...
See it spelling PS2... Nicely. It's actually a picture of Megaman, Sonic and Mario. Taken from the gamefaqs boards...
Apparently it comes from the guy who broke the "Rare" announcement.
"Am I the first person to see how this may come together? This is classic Nintendo fashion. They drop a few clues as something nears, but never go outright and tell you what it is. These things are surfacing from Insiders and forums and "reliable sources" Sound familiar? *cough* Rare...MS... *cough*
First I'll cover the article. True or not? I don't know. But it does make sense. Several years ago, Nintendo came up with the idea for a CD add-on for the SNES. They hired Sony to produce this add-on for Nintendo. They wrote a contract. Soemwhere along the line, Nintendo supposedly broke the deal and teame up with Panasonic. Now it has surfaced that Sony was reponsible for making the PLAYSTATION for NINTENDO. They never did, so it was Sony that broke the deal. (Remember, this is all hypothetical, basing it on if the article is real) Therefore, Nintendo designed the PSX, came up with the PSX, Sony promised Nintendo to make it for them, but they break it off and make it for themselves. This would entitle Nintendo to everything Playstation. Even the game sales, because Sony was reaping the benefits of a console Nintendo should have the rights to.
Fast-forward to now. nintendo is going over this old contract. They find Sony is responsible. They decide to file a lawsuit against Sony, all but guarenteed to win. Being near the holidays, they decide to set up deals they will announce in December. Capcom is having financial problems. Nintendo has or will have the money. The GC has been Capcom's #1 choice anyway.
They buy Capcom. Capcom shuts down a few buildings (which they REALLY did), and start moving everything over to Nintendo HQ in Kyoto.
Sega is in the financial $%^&hole too. Their bid to become the #1 3rd party is failing. The best sales for their games have been on Nintendo systems. Nintendo knows this, Sega knows this. The only development house that is making multi-platform games is Visual Concepts. Visual Concepts makes the sports games, but they are not selling on the 'Cube, so they want to stop GC development. While this is going on, the parent company, Sega, is planning to move over to Nintendo, they very same company that one of their top devs dont want to make games for anymore. They let VC go, and move on with the Nintendo deal.
Nintendo acquires Sega.
Nintendo is on top of the world. They have acquired Sega and Capcom, 2 of the best VG developers, ever. They discover that they are entilted to everything their largest competitor has been making. The money, the games, and especially the millions and millions of users that are going to be Nintendo fans when its all said and done. So, Nintendo has to go about the right way to announce this. They do what they always do, leaving clues as the big day nears. The Sonic Mega Collection, who ever thought the biggest Sonic package ever would appear on a Nintendo system? The Capcom 5. Five potential system selling games all announced exclusive to the GC from one company. They use the $$$ internally too. They make the GBA player for the GC. They go all-out on their Metroid and Zelda adventsing campaigns.
Now we come to the final clue. The new picture. The letters that supposedly spell "PS2", are ataully jumbled up pictures of Sonic, MegaMan, and Mario. All 4 of which they now own. And they slap their corporate slogan at the bottom. It certainly is a difference, a MEGATON difference! The difference being, in just a short time, Nintendo has gained everything they lost, and are back on top just like that!
> That would be very good, and a step towards a
> universal standard.
Yey, higher prices and less diversity, good ol' single format. ;-)
> Hahahaha die Sony DIEEEEEE
Hey...
Ninty Fanboy or not, surely you must acknowledge Sony are a company with merit in other areas.
Hi-Fi
Television
Video
DVD
Digital still/motion Cameras
Pioneers of CD and Minidisc
etc...
So no, Sony, don't die!
Who knows. It's all a mute point at the moment, but interesting all the same.
