It's not going to end world hunger.
It's not going to ensure you have a healthy sex life.
I'm just warning you, because I can already see what's going to happen when it comes out.
People screaming that this is the 2nd coming, and other people saying it sucks.
And there will be much wailing of voices and gnashing of teeth.
Let's look at the general comments from reviews all over the place:
It *is* a good game but it has it's faults. Too many cut-scenes. I've heard this from loads of people, they break into the flow of the game and begin to grate after a while.
Too easy to complete.
Now I'm not slamming this game, so put your toys back in the pram, just saying that with this amount of hype, it can't possibly live up to everything you think it will be.
I've read from a hell of a lot of sites that the ship level is the best one, the one on the demo. So personally, I'll be waiting to see opinions here before I rush out and get it.
I think the hype has damaged this game tremendously, it can't possibly match what you're expecting.
I don't doubt it's a good game, but I just can't see it approaching the levels of fervour it's generating here.
But I know what will happen, someone will say "I didn't enjoy it that much" and will be drowned out by the fanatical screams of "HOW DARE YOU!".
I've seen a heck of a lot of movies now of MGS2, and it's looking very familiar to the 1st game.
There's even a section where you have to take down a helicopter using a rocket launcher.
I enjoyed the demo, but for me the best bit of it was getting under a box and scuttling about whilst humming the Benny Hill chase-music.
I didn't really care about shooting the guards or pressing myself against the wall, it was all about hobbling along with comedy music in my head.
So it's out in what..2 weeks? Hurrah, I'll rent it from a video-chain store to see if it's worth my money.
I just think this has been shot in the foot by people talking it up without having played it.
That's never a good thing and can only do more harm than good.
And I fully expect squads of irate people chasing me through the village with flaming torches because I dared to say "Hold it a moment" about MGS2.
Me luv MGS2 even though me no yet play.
I don't care about the hype, I don't care what others think... I enjoyed the first immensely, and would agree that it was probably PS1's finest game.
The second is similar, but better - so in my view, it can't go wrong. I enjoy the stories, I don't mind the cutscenes...
I know it's not to everyone's tastes, but I know I'll enjoy it, and that's what counts. Isn't it?
Sadly, people are going to think that MGS2 is some sort of gaming Utopia. And it's just not going to happen.
I'm just curious as to how many threads there will be on here with people saying how disappointed they were with it. Nopt because it's a bad game, but because they were expecting too much.
Or will they not want to lose face, so they'll say they loved it when they were actually disappointed?
I think the defining word here though is "play". It's probably more like "watch".
"What you gonna do when it doesn't change your life? When you wake up in the same bed, in the same life, with the same problems, what you gonna do?"
To you, not us.
I get excited about games, yah, I get excited about films too. I learnt my lesson from the Phantom Menace never to take anything seriously, which is probably the only good point about the film, for me, anyway.
My mind works thus:
1) There's a game coming out.
2) Do I like what it seems to be like?
3) What do the reviews say?
And then I decide from that if I should buy it or not. Adverts don't have an affect on me, apart from reminding me that I'm supposed to buy something that I already know is good.
The only exception to this rule, for some reason, is Luigi's Mansion on the Gamecube. It hasn't had good reviews, mainly because it's too short... but I still want to play it. And claiming it with gameaday is much better than spending £30 on something, if I'm not going to like it.
