It's not going to change your life.
It's not going to end world hunger.
It's not going to ensure you have a healthy sex life.

I'm just warning you, because I can already see what's going to happen when it comes out.
People screaming that this is the 2nd coming, and other people saying it sucks.
And there will be much wailing of voices and gnashing of teeth.

Let's look at the general comments from reviews all over the place:

It *is* a good game but it has it's faults. Too many cut-scenes. I've heard this from loads of people, they break into the flow of the game and begin to grate after a while.
Too easy to complete.
Now I'm not slamming this game, so put your toys back in the pram, just saying that with this amount of hype, it can't possibly live up to everything you think it will be.
I've read from a hell of a lot of sites that the ship level is the best one, the one on the demo. So personally, I'll be waiting to see opinions here before I rush out and get it.

I think the hype has damaged this game tremendously, it can't possibly match what you're expecting.
I don't doubt it's a good game, but I just can't see it approaching the levels of fervour it's generating here.
But I know what will happen, someone will say "I didn't enjoy it that much" and will be drowned out by the fanatical screams of "HOW DARE YOU!".
I've seen a heck of a lot of movies now of MGS2, and it's looking very familiar to the 1st game.
There's even a section where you have to take down a helicopter using a rocket launcher.

I enjoyed the demo, but for me the best bit of it was getting under a box and scuttling about whilst humming the Benny Hill chase-music.
I didn't really care about shooting the guards or pressing myself against the wall, it was all about hobbling along with comedy music in my head.

So it's out in what..2 weeks? Hurrah, I'll rent it from a video-chain store to see if it's worth my money.
I just think this has been shot in the foot by people talking it up without having played it.
That's never a good thing and can only do more harm than good.

And I fully expect squads of irate people chasing me through the village with flaming torches because I dared to say "Hold it a moment" about MGS2.

Not all Sony fans are expecting this game to change things like others are.

I know this game will be good, i know i will like it, as i did with the last one. But too many people are going about talking as if this game is some how going to change the industry because it will be so good, but it wont. It hasnt made such a big leap from MGS 1, its more of the same, with better graphics, a new story and some neat little features. But its not the game that many people, mainly Sony fans reckon it is.

As said, the first downfall to the game is the hype, that is the first thing that has harmed it. People were already expecting too much of this game a year ago, but it may stuggle to live up to this. But think about it, if it wasnt for the hype, would we be in a discussion like this now? It would be like GTA 3, better and more improved than anyone thought it would be, maybe thats a lesson for the future...

The game will be good, i will enjoy it, so will others. But it wont change the industry like some think.

That was the intention.

And I'm sure it will be an excellent game, just not the be all and end all.

Reminds of the classic end scenes from every Count Dracula movie where the yokels finally get angry and storm the Count's dark castle armed with pitchforks.

I don't wish to urinate on anyones bonfire here, but I've just this afternoon signed a contract where by I will, upon reciept of MGS2, be insured a healthy sex life. Also, seeing as the sex is purely for creating life I will be having lots of babies! (Well, my various mistresses will anyway).

Before you say anything, yes I know what you're thinking - "bringing lots more babies to this planet won't solve anything", and normally i'd agree. However, in this instance you'd be wrong, my offspring will not be being looked after by me at all, I am lazy, unreliable and hate kids, so instead I'll be feeding my offspring to the world!
There are plans for many others to enter into this same field of producing consumable offspring, i've seen the list! It all revolves around MGS2!

In case you're wondering, feeding the world my babies IS quite a different life to the one I'm currently leading, so MGS2 infact covers all three cryteria!

But still, I see what you're saying Goaty.

The games that have impressed me the most were ones I never really saw coming.

Worms, I played at a friends house.

Pokémon, my friend gave me a Gameboy emulator with this game. I got hooked! :-D

Goldeneye - I'd heard the hype but ignored it, firmly believing that the N64 was an outdated "kiddies" machine.
Then I played the game and realised what an idiot I'd been.

Zelda - Again, I'd ignored the hype for similar reasons to Goldeneye.

When magazines described F-Zero's speed, their adjectives left a picture in my head that made the real thing look really slow!

Jet Force Gemini wasn't half as action packed as the magazines had had me beliving.

Perfect Dark was a mixed bag.
I'd stopped myself from reading up on it before hand.
Some parts impressed me more than I expected, but overall, it wasn't quite the ultimate game I'd been expecting.

Now with the Gamecube, I'm looking forward to it, but I'm not labelling any of its games as the ultimate best game ever. I know I'll enjoy it but so long as I keep myself believing that I'll never appreciate it the same way I did with the N64, I shouldn't end up disappointed.

Also, because I have more money, I can get more games more often instead of one per 6 months.
That's less time bored inbetween games, waiting and looking forward and getting overhyped about the next one.

My thoughts are the same as Wookiee's.

I heard MGS on the PS1 was a good game so I got it, and loved it to bits. This wasn't because of hype, I just happened to think it was fantastic!

I've tried to ignore the hype on MGS2, but it's tough. However, after playing the demo and reading some of the reviews I know it is my type of game, and I know I'm going to enjoy it. GameApot gave it the best music award which I'm thrilled about, because the music in MGS was a prime reason for it being successful.

Lots of cut scenes is fine with me too, they help me feel more involved in the storyline, which no doubt will be intricate, complex, and funny, all in one.

It won't change my life. But I'm pretty sure it wil give me some more great gaming experiences, just like MGS did.
