I hae recently looked on the Q&A at http://www.cube-europe.com/misc/qa.html , and they say that using imported cube controllers and memory cards could damage the cube and won’t work.
Q: What do you think about Nintendo's decision to release GCN with only 3 controller colours? I don't like this, as I like a different colour for each player. So would it be safe to import that clearpurple one from the U.S. and use it on my PAL-GCN, as that one isn't coming out over here?
A: First of all, it wouldn't be safe, as it wouldn't work, and might damage your GCN beyond repair. Secondly, a plethora of coloured controllers will undoubtedly be making their way over here, so don't worry about not having enough choice! Remember, you could only get a grey N64 controller at launch!
Does anyone KNOW whether it is safe to use imported controllers and memory cards on a PAL cube.
Please help,
Regards

Nintendo wants the REAL figures...
Nintendo DO NOT want to
> know how many controllers have been bought in japan and used in the UK, they
> want to know what the public is using...
Ahhh... nice idea, but wrong. The reason Ninty don't want you to import, like every other manufacturer, is because we are charged far more for out peripherals in this country than people are in Japan. Ninty get more profit from us!
As for whether controllers will work, I am 99% sure. NO console in the last decade has not allowed imported controllers to work. However, the official line is always that "you shouldn't use imports". But then again, the official line is that you shouldn't use 3rd party controllers either... which is pure rubbish!

"Hello,
Although I know that the Nintendo GameCube is not universal, I'm not sure if accessories fall into this category. Personally, I've not tried foreign controllers/memory cards in my U.S. system so I don't have any first-hand experience. I don't want to say they'll work if they don't, and I don't want to tell you "no" if they do. The only thing I know is that it's sometimes best to stick with products from your country, so although you may have a U.S. controller and Japanese Memory Card, you might want to hold off on using them, as I can't guarantee what will happen. Hope this helps!

I think this is nintendo's way of telling us, yes it will but don't import!
what do you think?
everybody has helped to reassure me today, you can understand my worry after reading what they had written.
Anyway, keep a look out...cos if I get a reply from nintendo or any other info comes to light about the subject, I will post it on here.
Thanks again,

> what do you mean 'affiliated' with nintendo?
Not an official source. Thats all I ment.
I think if anything it is something that Nintendo came up with to put gamers off of importing.
And didin't someone say
> they'd asked nintendo if the imported pads would work, and was told they
> would?
Ye, I remember someone saying that here. I woudnt take the Cube-europe site too seriously. They do get a lot of news very quickly but they affiliated with Nintendo.
I have also asked Cube-Europe where they have got their info from about it damaging the cube. Again, any response and I'll post it here.
Hopefully we can solve this problem once and for all!
> Hmmmmm...I imported a official controller from Canada for when i get my PAL
> cube.
Hmmmmm indeed.
Exactly what i was thinking!
Still, i'm 90% sure they should be fine. And didin't someone say they'd asked nintendo if the imported pads would work, and was told they would?
Just that 10% at the back of my mind : S
