I was just reading various reviews of Battle Royale (thanks to Goatboy for the detailed review) after seeing it appear on my stats page, and all I can say is that I want to see this film badly! I'm not sure if I want to shell out the £19.99 for it yet, so I'll try and rent it this coming Saturday from my local rental shop and see what it's like. Firstly: I'd like some opinions on the film, and whether it's worth the money or not? It sounds like a damn good film, with the most original storyline I've ever heard of!
Thanks to Allardini, I should be renting Memento out with it, but is Memento any good? I just want to be sure, as these both sound like quality films, and I wouldn't want to miss out on two great films in hesitating in buying them.

Battle Royale is not an eighteen because of violence, in my opinion. It's an eighteen, because if you're not close to that mental age, then you're not going to get it at all.
It turns from a blood and gutsy cool movie, into a thoughtful disturbing view on society. That's why.

Friday was the grand opening of the DVD library venture. Someone decided to ge Battle Royale..
Him: Do you have Battle Royale?
Me: Yes
Him: Is it the remake or the original?
Me: Um.. it's a brand new film
Him: Yes, but is it the remake or the original?
Me: It's a Japanese film released this year about schoolchildren going to an island and having to kill each other to survive
Him: yeah I know, but is it the (with exaggerated slowness) the remake or the original?
Me: (gives up) Yes, it's the remake, there you go.

Unless I'm completely mistaken then there is only one Battle Royale and it's about children killing each other in Japan. Apart from that everything else went fine. I even managed to convince someone to watch 'O brother Where art Thou?' and another to watch 'Sexy Beast'. A satisfying day.
