Talking to a real nerd today, no idea why he started talking to me, but he got into a conversation with himself about round IDE cables, and how they let the air inside your pc flow better, well sounds reasonable, although IDE cables are pretty much paper thin anyway, anyway, does anyone know if they improve performance? or if they're just something a little different + are they the same price, i can't find any :)

I have 2 ide and 1 floppy black round cables and they make the air flow inside my case alot better as i have pretty good cooling anyway these were just the icing on the cake, they also helped reduce my cpu temp by about 3 degrees which isnt that much but it looks alot neater and it is easier to mess around inside your case, i have had no performance problems with these cables on my 2 40 gb ibm drives, it alows your cards to get some air from a front fan as well. One thing you should know the cooler your cpu, motherboard, ram and cards run the more stable they are and even performance is increased.

ALSO did you know SR do black and yellow round cables?

Yeah, it's mainly aesthetic, actual increase of airflow seems not to be too great...then again, I'm using 7 fans anyway, heh.

Evil grey ribbon cables, must replace with nice black rounded ones..

I can see why i'd need them as I can't see inside my case, + I don't need too much airflow help, I guess it just makes it easier to access when i'm messing around inside.

Woohoo, something in my area at last =D

Ive heard of some problems with certain drives using these cables, seem to cause more errors than IDE ribbon cables, but that could be due to other factors. They do iprove the airflow, and they're much nicer to look at inside your case - my wiring is a real mess at the moment, I'm looking to pick up 3 black rounded cables, 2 hdd and 1 fdd, £25 at kustom..

I've never heard of round IDE cables, but I'm not that techy.

They would help the air flow though. IDE cables are quite thin, but they are wide, and if they're not attched inside your PC properly, they can hamper air flow around the CPU.
