What I'm trying to say is won't someone bring out something fresh and new nobody has tried.
Take examples of Deus Ex(a good mix of shooting and RPG exploring)
Vib ribbon (strange but addictive) and what about The Sims (different from many other games around but addictive as well).
There may well be a new genre in the near future as the consoles get more powerful. With more new genres we can bring more of a good range of games. People could use several genres in their games and bring out something new and different to the gaming world.
And the companies may benifit from it with big sales on their new product.
Someone said there should be a character for the X-Box. I said Crash Bandicoot. The reason I said that was because Microsoft Windows 98 has a reputation of crashing when you least expect it.
Crashing = Crash
Crash Bandicoot.
Do you understand now?
Anyway, they aren't making Tomb Raider 5, they are making Tomb Raider 2.4
Remember that Finaly Fantasy only started at 7 on the PSX - that means there were 6 on the Nintendo systems!
Surely whether a sequel is any good is a matter of personal preference? I bought FF7, but got fed up with it - not my type of game. But it's sold so many millions that people obviously enjoy them. I don't, but I'm not bothered that they're talking about making yet more of them - I'm just unlikely to buy them!
I personally like the Tomb Raider series, but will readily admit they are all very similar. They're working on a TR5 for PSX, but I'm hoping that when Lara makes the jump to PS2, I'm hoping for much, much more.
Every machine has sequels - how many Sonic's? How many Donkey Kong's? How many Mario's? The format might have changed (as in the Oddworld games and Munch's Oddysey on PS2), but strictly speaking, they're still sequels to the original games.
Inevitably, regardless of whether it's actually any good, if a game sells well, there'll be a sequel. If the sequel sells well, there'll be another, and so on. Only when a particular episode of a game fails to sell will we see the end of it.
You cannot simplify games sequels like this, mainly because most developers put a lot of time into a game, including getting people to test the game at the end and going back to change it if it does not live up to the players expectations. There are a few developers in it just for the money, but that is what they are, a few. The majority will only release a game when it is ready, hence the late release date on a lot of games. Whether they still turn out to be crap or not is another matter entirely.
The anticipation makes the people buy it, but the sequels turn out to be rubbish. Everyone got Goldeneye and awaited a sequel, they got Perfect Dark and weren't disappointed. Now everyone has Metal Solid and are waiting for a PSX2 version of it and hopefully that turns out well. What developers have is pressure from us to bring out the games, that's why they turn out to be rubbish. Look at Zelda OoT Nintendo took 2 years to make it and it turned out to be game of the year. They need to spend more time on their games to get the right results.
Original Prequel
Gran Turismo ---- Gran Turismo 2
Wipeout ------------- Wipe3out
Resident Evil-------- Resident Evil 3--Nemesis
Tekken------------------Tekken 3
Ridge Racer----------RRT4
Final Fantasy7-------Final Fantasy 8
And theres more great prequels to come, Driver 2, Tekken Tag Tournament, tonnes of great games are just getting better. Its Evolution, Look at the Mario Series of games, each one a Masterpeice. I wonder how Nintendo can top Mario64, but I cant wait to see it happen!
