They are however chasing down the people who distribute ROMS on sites illegally, they are the people that tehy threaten with law suits..

To be honest, I downloaded some the other day. Who really cares though? No one is going to come all the way to your house, do a search for cartridges, and then nick you if he/she doesn't find any.

I know computer software, like books held under copyright law (since softare, like literature is written) rather than patent law.
And that the owner of software is allowed to make as many 'backups' as they like.
There are complications with licences, contract law, etc.. its Saturday, and its been a few years since I studied law & computers...
It's all over the web..
I've known for ages about how the ROMs are illegal!
