i downloaded Pokemon red onto my PC ages before it hit britain and ages before anybody had heared about it i thought it was a great idea but now with all the franchise around i'm just sick of it every where i look its pokemon i am glad it cought on but this is over the top.
The cartoon animation is very poor yet interesting to watch perhaps in Japan when they are shocked they fall to the floor in a heap and when they sigh perhaps little mushroom pop out of their mouths who knows its a different world over there!

I'm not totaly sure about this but.
Digimon was first it came out as a tamogotchi thing where you train creatures then join with other trainers and battle them.
pokemon basicly took it a step further: to the gameboy then squeezed evey thing they could from the idea :

Then Digimon realised what it had missed and released a cartoon (which is by far inferior to pokemon) and it just hit our TV after Pokemon had it come out earlyer it may have been a hit.
So dont totaly dimiss digimon it way have paved the way for the Pokemon e know and love

Pokémon is the latest craze taking the whole world by storm. So of course people are going to make similar cartoons but not exact copies like DIGIMON!!!. I first saw Digimon when I was on holiday in Florida. It was Bl**dy Cr@p (and thats putting it mildly). It is no different to pokémon other than Pokémon is better with more realistic storylines and better characters. When I saw it all the Human characters (drawn similar to Pokémon) looked up at the sky and said "Whats that in the sky". Suddenly a new world appeared in the Sky and the show was over. All the characters have the same name ending with "mon". They evolve just like pokémon. They always say the names of their moves before attacking like the pokémon trainers do to tell them what to do. It's just a money making scheme by Haim Saban. They even have the cheek to bring out Trading Cards (In USA anyway).
This I'm just putting on for the fun of it! Here are the words for the Pokémon theme tune.

I hate the way people always laugh at something they don't understand or can't take the time to learn about. Pokemon is a great game and yet, most people I know think that it is babyish and for kids. They obviously haven't seen the unbelievibly complicated stats and the way you must remember what each and every attack does to each and every pokémon.
I think that some people hate it because of the cartioon and the way the trading cards have suddnely become popular but they have to remember that pokemon is a GAME, first and foremost. It's like saying that the film 'A Bug's Life' is bad just because the game is.
If people want to critisize pokémon for being childish and simple they should at least play the GAME first, I don't mind if they still don't like it then because, after all, it is only a matter of opinion but it just seems to me that people are criticsizing it because it is so popular. I'd hate to think that just because something is popular people say they hate it even though they hardly know anything about it.

well longy are you really that old, or is this just the little child in you making you watch it?
as you said the games are good, well I don't know about pokemon snap! every thing just seems quite crap, and the seires is on about 6-8 times a day on sky 1! god damn thats about 3-4 hours of pikachu! I think that the people that watch it must be speaking pokemon now!

Now I'm not a great fan of pokemon, but I got this game on the N64 and it is the best fighting game ever made, 150 characters to choose from, this is almost an unlimited supply, just imagine Tekken 3 with 150 characters! you would never be able to complete the whole game!
The whole idea of the game is really really good, you pick a max of 6 pokemon, and then battle them out, and it's also a four player game! where will it stop! there have been fighting games for the N64, but they have lacked something....gameplay, originality, infact they didn't have any of the important things which makes a decent fighting game, although this game is far from realistic, thats not why it sells so well, I also don't get why charizard is classed a dragon pokemon, and blastoise isn't a turtle pokemon, I havn't tried this yet, because I don't have not got all three mystical birds.....but can you get the other bird.....I forgot it's name, when you get them all toghter?....luigi, or something?
