I have been summoned for Jury Service.
I don't want to, but there is nothing you can do about it.
You can ask to defer, but they have refused me.

Damn.
I hope none of you are appearing in court from Feb 18th onwards.

My dad has to go to court soon for a custody hearing over me, my brother and my sister, but it's purely a custody hearing, so yay for me! It could spill into an actual case if matters get any worse though. Goatboy, what area do you live in?

From people I've heard who've done jury service, the only thing you find out is how hopelessly inept the trial by jury institution has become. My English teacher had to do it and one woman (housewife) decided that the bloke was guilty on the first day because of the way he looked at her.

You've also got to look out for the expert witnesses leading you, because if they do you have to forget what they said. I did work experience with a London barrister and ended up watching two Old Bailey cases. One had an expert witness on blood spattering who stuck post-it notes around a door and told the jury that the pattern of blood definitely meant that X was hit from behind by Y. At which point the judge interrupted mr.witness and forbade the jury from remembering the fact because he's only allowed to say that in his much considered opinion X indicates Y.

It seems to be that the vast majority of jurors are either housewives or unemployed because they're the only ones who can't get an employer to say they are indispensable.

Oh, and if you post anything about the experience on here you'll get in trouble. But you probably knew that as you seem to know a lot about law, which will not bode well as they could elect you head juror and then you'll have to do some work :-)

Jury Duty sucks, I had to do it last year and wasn't even called to be on the jury but had to go back everyday at 9 in case a new case came up. I went in hungover on the third day and one of the accused in the trial was shouting at the family members of the guy he attacked so I returned my abuse before I was told that we were no longer required to stay and told to go home.

No.
I have decided to claim another planet as my ancestral home and fouling myself will be sufficient.

As soon as the defendant comes out, stand up and shout 'Give him the chair!'. That ought to get you off.

I have decided the best course of action is to turn up and emit a low frequency hum during selection.
Then I announce I do not beleive that Earth law holds sway with me.
And then I crap myself.

No way they'll keep me on then.
