A phrase so ofte heard. And I agree, but for a different reason.
Of course, I have no doubt that the new Zelda will have great gameplay, maybe even some revolutionary elements too. Either way it's going to be a classic.
But why Cell-shading? After all, as I understand it, cell-shading was invented by Sega to give Jet Set a grafiti feel to it. Of course, it works superbly for cartoons too, hene games like Wacky Racers use it. So, why Zelda? It is neither a cartoon, nor is it a street sports game. It simply doesn't warrant the new look.
I propose two alternatives:
1) The hyper-realistoc look.
Clearly, this will allow Nintendo to truely realise the phantasy elements of the game- great looking maic effect, immense bosses and perfect sword fights would make the game the crown of the Gamecube and show what the console is capable of. It would increase gamecube sales, and would alert the massmarket as to Nintendo's genius. It couldn't go wrong!
2) A new graphical style:
Well, Cell-shading was invented to look like grafiti- the topic of the game it was used in. So, why doesn't Miyamoto invent a new style for Zelda that would allow the phantasy side of the game to shine. How about having a sky that swirls with multiple colours- like a moving Monet painting. Lakes could be done in the same way- ever seen Monet's water-lilies? Evil creatures in the game could be surrounded by a haze of dark evil that would follow their bodys and produce stunning effects.
This is what I mean by a new graphical style.
Well, there are my two cents for the day. I'd like to know your opinions- especially on that last idea.
Sonic
Of course, it'll mean he plans to release a mario/zelda game every 6 months, however, it enevitably means that the games will not be able to provide the REVOLUTION we expect from the series.
Sonic
But basically, what im saying is that I won't be like "Ooh yes! Zelda!" And go out and buy the game, I will have to see if a mate gets a GameCube, or ask someone on here.
But, personally, I think Nintendo ruined it. Personally.
Congrats on GAD Sonic :o)
I don't care how it looks, I wanna play it! And the cell shading thing could mean smoother and more visually pleasing movements! I also think that it's 'Disney-style' could be a link to a future Zelda film...
New, original games like Luigi's Mansion and Pikmin were made by small devellopment teams in a small amount of time because they didn't want to put too much into an idea that didn't sell.
Pikmin was a big success and now Shigsy is making the sequel, putting more resources in and expanding the idea (hopefully).
Bigger franchises like Mario and Zelda (the games that Nintendo KNOW will sell), have bigger devellopment teams and more time and resources spent on them.
Perhaps Zelda has been downgraded into the "testing" class because of the negative reaction to it's new visuals?
The short and sweet policy seriously sucks though, but
> I've heard that it doesn't apply to Zelda and Mario so the big epic titles won't
> be ruined after all...
I hope...
Actually... it does :(
The new Zelda is meant to be 15 hours in length (as opposed to the 40 hours of the N64 game)... which is probably a bad thing...
Sonic
I think it's good that the style has change significantly, as it stops Zelda becoming stale like Tomb Raider.
Cell-Shading is just the latest cool technique that developers like using, and one day we will see a more realistic, maybe even more dark and adult, in the future.
I think that the game will be flowing with character and interacting with characters will look more like a disney quality cartoon rather than some plastacine models nodding their head in time to the words.
The short and sweet policy seriously sucks though, but I've heard that it doesn't apply to Zelda and Mario so the big epic titles won't be ruined after all...
I hope...
Despite the utterly horrific state of the graphics (my opinion), the actual gameplay, story and handling will be amazing- it's a Zelda game after all!
The only thing that does worry me is that Miyamoto has openly said that the game will be shorter for casual gamers who don't finnish long games, and so that he can push out more games. (He's thinking of a new Zelda/Mario game every 6 months!). This would harm the very idea of Zelda... it is meant to be the leader when it comes to games in terms to gameplay, story and revolution. So to make the series expand so quickly would lose a lot of that excitment that surrounds the series.
Sonic
In my view Nintendo have ruined a masterpiece. I hate that cel-shading stuff, it looks so bad.
AWAY FROM THE KID STUFF. Sheesh...
But, I can still find 10/20 games from the launch titles that are adult. Mm, Nintendo are turning.. (Good!)
But this cel-shading, it looks like crap. I like the realistic one, remember when the first screenies came through? Ohh it looked so cool. Now, its crap. I shall definatly not be buying Zelda, unless they change it.
Shame, I enjoyed the N64 versions..
