They where great friends within the industry, Nintendo and Squaresoft.
We all know what went wrong in the end.
But the Question still poses: 'Are Square better off with Nintendo?'
Considering the company enjoyed the successful releases of Nine Final Fantasy games with Nintendo, they know each other more than we would think.
In reality those where the days when not only did we see hugely enjoyable Final Fantasy titles on the Super Nes, more so than we have ever saw on Playstation 1&2!, but other true masterpieces of pure genius such as Secret of Mana and Chrono Trigger (Which was in high demand on import lists).
Yip, those where the days, which have failed really to emulate the same sort of success on the Sony machines.
It's true!, they might have pulled in a large amount of notes with Sony, but the games are Nintendo fabric and are best suited with the company.
Their reputation with Nintendo's quality is important in the long run.
Square even know that too, they tried their best cuddling up to Nintendo on pure sight and knowledge of what the Gamecube was capable of, they knew it was a system to elevate their success even further and bring them back to the good old days.
But of course, the big Dinosaur stirred.
Nintendo are brutally arrogant, I know that, they have Yamuchi San to thank for that and it is partly this reason if we don't see Square with Nintendo today.
And from the looks of it Square are still trying their luck stating that out of all system's, the Gamecube brings forth ease coupled with brute power. But how do they know about the Gamecube? Do they have Nintendo GC Development tools in-house?
Who knows, but they are hinting continuously of a new liking for Nintendo, 19 % or no 19% Sony stake involved.(Perhaps Nintendo will move in with a bigger stake?)
But ive said my piece, Square are better off with Nintendo, whether you like it or not.
But that's my opinion.
It's time for Nintendo to move on- Bringing Square with them. And then we will see a true beast within gaming, that is so needed.
Do you actually know how succesfull Final Fantasy 7 was, or 8 and 9 for

Titles like the Bouncer? ahem.....
Yes I know FF7-8-9 where huge money earners, i said that!
As for the 'Most' titles ported from Snes to PS1, What where they??
I can only recall FF 4-5-6 & Chrono Trigger! 4 titles.

Well-
I'd have to disagree!! Strongly in fact.
Square originally

Yes only because the title was the first FF online network title. After that however............
And they said themselves that they favour the Gamecube!
I don't think a 1.5 gig disc could handle what Square have to offer
> and Nintendo don't want anything to do with Square and vice versa :-)
The 1.7 GB disc is a lot more than the 700MB Discs that Square had for FF7-9.
And your speaking nonsense too saying they couldn't handle it, why not? Didn't Square split up FF8 and 9 into 4 Discs!!??!
Plus the fact, you have to take into consideration the Gamecubes unique compression.
Nintendo might not have wanted anything to do with Square, but Square 'Publicly' went on record saying they would love to develop for the Gamecube and like to patch things up with the Big N.

I'd have to disagree to that, Nintendo's games differ by huge amounts to Square titles and are best suited where they've been for the last few years!!!!!

Square originally intended Final Fantasy 11 to be on Gcube, Xbox, PS2 and maybe PC so they were interested in all systems not just the Gamecube.

But, this is all conjecture because Square and Nintendo will never reach a deal.
