I haven't really been taken by the Xbox to this point, played most of the release games and with the exception of Halo, nothing really stood out! however all that change this morning.
A PR guy from Activision came around today with a preview copy of Reckless, and i must say it's easily the best looking game i've ever seem on a console - period.
Grpahically this is the first time i've ever really thought that the XBox was a generation above the PS2 - i know it's not really but looking at Reckless it was an impossible think otherwise.
And to be fair as i said the code i played was only preview - there was still a bit more optimisation to do as you did get the occational bit of slowdown - nothing to worry about even at this stage but when this game is released its going to kick butt.
The scary thing is the Reckless is a 1st generation Xbox game and it looks head and shoulders above all the 2nd generation PS2 games around at the moment. Just imagine the quality of XBox games in 6 months!

I'm still not buying an Xbox in march as i think it's to expensive, but i have to admit that i think the PS2 is really going to have a tough time keeping up with Microsofts machine this year!

Still getting a GameCube tho!

Anyone else seen Reckless first hand? What you think?

Keep your biased, unsupported opinions to yourself... everything you have written is pure rubbish!

Remember the XBOX is based on DirectX so developers are experienced with it and are able to use the XBOX to its full potential. However this means that we will not see a very big leap in the quality of graphics in the future. However every month we get a new experience out of the PS2, better sound graphics and gameplay. The PS2 is getting better all the time, the XBOX will be left in the wake well behind the PS2 and gamecube.

Look...

The PSX enters the market as a new console. Sony buy developers, give rewards to those who go exclusive, get a decent launch and lots of advertising. Sony blow away the competition.

The Xbox enters the market as a new console. MS buy developers, give rewards to those who go exclusive, get a decent launch and lots of advertising...

Well, the WON'T blow away the competition- Sony, MS, Ninty, and independent predictions show that the PS2 will have 45% of the market, Xbox will have 35% and GC will have 20%.

But to rubbish the console is pure stupidity. It HAS one of the strongest launchs ever (if not the strongest launch line up), it has great advertising, and it has great exclusives. Whether it has games that appeal to you is another matter, although most gamers will like the games on offer.

How did u get your hands on wreckless, do u work for a games company or some thing?

Xbox is a great console, which has been made for developers by developers which is why we are quality software is being released from the word go.

Long term were looking at Ps2 in pole with Xbox close at its heels the whole time and gamecube floating in around third, this will be mainly due to image, plus the insane decision to let Sony have the market to itself for so long.

Having said that Xbox is easily the most impressive console ive ever played, and should only get better!

Iam currently looking for a job as a quality assurance / Testign worker, so am very happy that xbox and gamecube are comming out as testing of ps2 games wouldn't take very long......

I think thats the main point. Graphics arent everything. The titles at PS2's launch do, of course, look inferior to the X Box's launch titles, graphically. Gameplay wise though they were pretty good. Despite the iffy line up PS2 sold stagerringly well and finding a console for xmas 2000 was nigh on impossible. It might be an idea to wait until more people have actually played the X Box games before saying that Microsoft are competing against Sony seriously, as there is a long history of machines with superior graphics for their time failing -3DO nd jaguar anybody, Lynx ?

Halo looks stunning, but gameplay wise its nothing really special. Long term playability comes not from the graphics - which wow for the first few weeks or so - but from the gameplay being so good that a year later you can still play the game and enjoy it.

Wreckless looks good, but how many outside of those who keep up to date with X box info actually know about it ? I'd never seen it until I just checked it out on Gamespot. Titles like Gran Turismo 3 and MGS2 are well known outside of the more dedicated gamers, as is Sony. microsoft have an image problem- they are PCs, and many normal buyers just starting out on consoles know that. How many of us have cursed Windows to hell/random bad place of your choice ? Plenty, and so have many other non console users. Also, where is the advertising ? Sure Game, SR e.t.c and all the game shops have it up but where are the more general tv adverts ? To win in the console game you have to, like Sony, draw in people who don't normally have a console. You alsoneed a very good reason why people should pay £100 extra for a console, one better than pretty graphics. Obviously some games are going to be higly playable, even the Jaguar had Tempest and AVP, but some aren't - anyone suggesting the X Box line up will be faultless is obviously very deluded :) One very stupid omission on Microsoft's part is the need to buy a £30 DVD remote just to even watch DVDs. Now yes, Sony has a £30 Remote ouot to, but any owner can watch DVDs without it, and there are ones from around £7, or free with the console in SR's case !

Lastly, technical problems. Sony and Microsoft in America (probably the Uk soon) have both had their problems wth faulty consoles. Sony's customer service is, with a few exceptions, good. Most PC owners who've ever had to contact Microsoft will probably use a 4 letter word to describe the experience, which I won't repeat, suffice to say doing so would probably get me banned lol Yes they could change, but I doubt it, after all ever since 95 PC owners have been promised a bug free Windows OS........

Oh, a final reason... Metal Gear Solid 2, March 8th = plenty of sales stolen from Microsoft :)

well technically the xbox will be more graphically powerful seeing as it's newer than the ps2 and the ps2 is slightly older technology. and i couldn't really care if a game looks so good it makes me check whether i'm looking out my window or not it's how it plays. until i get to play the xbox games then all the graphical power in the world doesn't interest me slightly. and if i do like a game .............. i'll just get it for my PC when it gets translated hehe :)
