In an attempt to make my life more exciting than it already is... challenge enough there... I've started to learn how to scuba dive. You know, with the air cylinders and masks and stuff.

It's a lot more fun than I first imagined. Bit scared at first, breathing underwater... but it's pretty damn cool.

It'll also be cool to say "I'm a qualified sports diver" too.

So come on you sad bunch, take something up. Never too late to learn anything.

Or if you have... what are you learning at the moment?

I plan to free myself if i get caught in a net, or cut lines from hooked fish. I also don't intend to wave it about looking hard, or use it on any fish/shark.

Unlucky Strafex. that nearly happened to me once, i realised as i started to get a BIT of water(luckily) in my snorkel. As for the french around you, they understood you alright, i know a lot of french people and they swear just like us with the exception of me*de (* replaced by r) which means poo-poo...

A blue-water ascent will cure you of that....or you'll have a panic attack. Or a night dive, hanging out in nowhere, too dark to see your depth gauge, no idea how deep you are, relying on your buddie, but he doesn't look too sure...

:-D

Yeah, basically had the same snorkelling experience as you, Strafex. Put me off for a long time... but this has really got my confidence back in the water.

Can't remember if I said I'm doing this because I'm scared of the water a bit as well, but I will now anyway.

I started learning Tae Kwon Do a few months back.
I've progressed from the white (complete begginer) to Yellow Tag (another 3 months and I'll get a proper yellow belt meaning I'm a PROPER beginner :-D).

I should be be able to start sparring then.

Despite training for months, I'd still get my but kicked in a fight but by building on the skills and practising to use them fluently, within a year I will hopefully be a tiny bit dangerous...

As for diving, I often swim underwater (although that means holding my breath which means I can only get as far as 20 metres before bursting out of the water, gasping for air.)

And breathing underwater, I sort of understand what you mean about the feeling. At the beach last summer holiday I used a snorkle and got that feeling, only I overestimated how high it went, put my whole head under water, got a lung-full of salty sea water and burst out of the water spluttering, coughing, spitting, and swearing VERY loudly all at the same time.

I hope those french weren't too good at translating what I was saying... :-D

Right, I'm trying to learn PHP, Javascript and Flash5. But, because of the huge amounts information needed, I thought it would be best just to stick with Flash5 before going onto anything else.

I'm also working on my site, and wasting all my money on it. Thoroughly enjoyable though.
