It is a topic we think of all the time, but rarely picked up upon on really.
Which design proves more in line for what we actually want?

To be totally honest about it, the Playstation 2 design is rather 'Jagged' looking, it's fairly big when you lie the console the proper way, but the vertical option is even more pointless and can become a pain after a while-loading games in and out of the tray. Trying to get it to go along side your DVD and video can lead to problems if you go vertical.
And for goodness sake, whats with the dreaded 'power' switch behind the console for??, another thing with the PS2 design that we could have done without.

As for the X-Box, yes the console looks nice in Pics, but honestly the thing is a giant plastic slab with air-vents!
Ever see it on T.V? Especially seeing it along side the Gamecube, makes this monster look bigger than you could possibly imagine.
If the thing had of been smaller, yes it would of been a bit more appealing!, even if it has a pointless green bubble ontop.

And finally the Gamecube, which looks to be my favourite of the lot, looks sleek despite rumblings from other people.

It has been accused of looking 'toyish' sporting a useless handle.
But to be honest, the handle would be a great thing, there have been many times my PS/N64/PS2 etc has been shipped about the house from room to room; and with this GC handle it will make the task more easier.
Then you have the colours it comes in 'You have a choice' , with my favourite being black, with even a stylish top Disc loading tray.

Yes the thing in my opinion looks swell, beats the other two consoles hands down in looks. And furthermore it has what I want a console to do: To fit in with the rest of my electrical equipment with ease, It is compact-It can be carried about the house with no problems and the thing looks nice- let alone plays the best games.
With the X-Box and PS2, I 'don't' and 'won't' get that what I get with the Gamecube.
Simple.

I've designed a console, a 64-bit GameBoy MD. You can find it in the Game Ideas and Retro Games forum if you want to read it. Or should I copy and paste it here, under this topic???

If I made a console if would look like Jesus' face.

The games would go in his mouth.

To open his mouth, just squeeze his nose so he can't breath.

The power and reset buttons could be in his eyes.

He would have lank greasy hair, and a ginger beard.

It would be the best looking console ever, but the content of the games might be a little preachy.

Ironically, all the mags are proclaiming that pad as the most comfortable pad ever (although a third party pad for the Gamecube turned out to be even better...)

I know that the Gamecube looks a bit like a kids toy in purple, but what about in black.

When it's released in black, it'll look smaller, more compact and sleeker than it's competitors.

Well, in my opinion:

The Gamecube is too kiddy. If Ninty really wanted to shake off their image as a toy maker, then they could have done better!

The PS2 fits in nicely with normal home appliances... but I think it just looks like it's naf... black plastic!

The Box looks great... until you realise how big it is (although not quite as big as people claim)

The DC is small and sleek. Maybe a black colour (like the limitted edition American ones!) would look better!

The Gamecube looks like something that came from Fisher Price, especially that ugly controller!

The PS2 looks rather cool with it's fururistic design of Earth and Space.

As for the XBOX - a total revolutionary looking console that looks as good as it plays!

It's at the back for a reason, I've used that switch roughly 3 times since december 2000 and left it on standby from the front or face button repeat FRONT.

True, I just hope it's detachable :-)

I'm also getting a black one (goes with everything) but the top disc lid is just a miniture version of the Playstation's. It's a pain opening the lid and clipping your discs on, nothing can beat the PS2's sexy sliding draw and it's already my favourite colour :-D

erm, which can fit all snug in a TV cabinet and fits in?

Which is the console that requires bags of space just to put the game in?

as for the Xbox I'd rather not go there ;-)

I seem to think you could be missing something here. It dosn't matter what it looks like on the outside, it is what is inside which should be considered. Sure looking good can be a bonus, but looks can be decieving. You don't buy a CD just because the cover looks good, same way you shouldn't decide on a console just because of its appearance. For you can change them.

Those of you who are brave will know how easy it is to take them appart and modify the appearance in any way you see fit. Spraypaint the PSX? Put it in a different casing altogether. As soon as your warentiy has expired you can go inside and do what you like, but be careful they do break easily.

On the inside they are all kind of similar as they provide the same kind of service, play games. The gamecube is small as the chips run at a lower heat than the X-Box and PS2 meaning they don't overheat in such a small space. But remember the GameCube pays only games.

I'm not going into console wars ways here as to be honest I don't care, I have the console I want and if another impresses me then I might buy that too. You buy whatever console you want, I have what I want and that is all that matters.

So how many of you have modified your consoles in any ways? Stickers? Paint? new casing?

I think that the Gamecube's handle rocks!

You can take it down your friends house nice and easily.
What's more, the unlike the delicate hi-fi styles of PS2 and Xbox, the Gamecube is tough and compact meaning it can take a few impacts. So if someone tries to take it from you, holding by the handle, swing it round and knock them cold.

What's more, being so brightly coloured, the blood won't look so messy on it...

Aren't kiddie consoles great!
