It is a topic we think of all the time, but rarely picked up upon on really.
Which design proves more in line for what we actually want?

To be totally honest about it, the Playstation 2 design is rather 'Jagged' looking, it's fairly big when you lie the console the proper way, but the vertical option is even more pointless and can become a pain after a while-loading games in and out of the tray. Trying to get it to go along side your DVD and video can lead to problems if you go vertical.
And for goodness sake, whats with the dreaded 'power' switch behind the console for??, another thing with the PS2 design that we could have done without.

As for the X-Box, yes the console looks nice in Pics, but honestly the thing is a giant plastic slab with air-vents!
Ever see it on T.V? Especially seeing it along side the Gamecube, makes this monster look bigger than you could possibly imagine.
If the thing had of been smaller, yes it would of been a bit more appealing!, even if it has a pointless green bubble ontop.

And finally the Gamecube, which looks to be my favourite of the lot, looks sleek despite rumblings from other people.

It has been accused of looking 'toyish' sporting a useless handle.
But to be honest, the handle would be a great thing, there have been many times my PS/N64/PS2 etc has been shipped about the house from room to room; and with this GC handle it will make the task more easier.
Then you have the colours it comes in 'You have a choice' , with my favourite being black, with even a stylish top Disc loading tray.

Yes the thing in my opinion looks swell, beats the other two consoles hands down in looks. And furthermore it has what I want a console to do: To fit in with the rest of my electrical equipment with ease, It is compact-It can be carried about the house with no problems and the thing looks nice- let alone plays the best games.
With the X-Box and PS2, I 'don't' and 'won't' get that what I get with the Gamecube.
Simple.

To be honest up to now I have always gone for Nintendo Products and games, although I own a PS2 and a DreamCast. (previously owned a PSone) I also like playing PC Games, and Ps2 is starting to catch my attention.

Unlike TurboNutter who has seen all 4 consoles, I have seen only 3/4 GC, PS2, & XBOX haven't seen the Q. In the shops the GC is a great size and shape, but I would never go for the purple machine...either Orange or Black. It has good game screenshots as well.

THE PS2 I think is good, a little long, but I like it more on a horizontal stand than vertically (which is a bit of a pain).

XBOX, is about the same size as my VCR, it won't go on top of my TV, there is no room under my telly for it, and I would have to keep my desktop immaculate to save room for the machine. The only thing I like about it are the colours, and what I have heard the machine can do.

Players are the architecture to the team, the 'Driving' force for creativity and success.

The same for Consoles.
Please don't have me going into the 'Driving force' or architecture of consoles (Chip-sets etc) or even have TBN going into the subject ( which would be a- Pretty please)

Hang on, I'll jst dig up an old quote... Ah, here is it:

"If a Ninty and a Sonyphile both said "My console's better than yours"
they'd both be right because from both their points of view, both their
consoles are better."

Football isn't like games though, because a player can be measured in skill. Games are relative to the person, so someone who lives different types of games can enjoy one console more than another, and that's why no console is better than any other.

No it doesn't, it called being honest and speaking the truth.

If I say Manchester United play the best football, does that make me a Man Utd fan?

Or Celtic has the best football jersey, does that make me a Celtic fan?

Okey Dokey?

Just because you own a PS2 doesn't stop you from being a Ninty.

"Plus the thing plays the best games of any system"

This in itself makes you a Ninty.

Define the word 'Ninty' for me?
I thought 'Ninties' don't own a PS2.

As for the Panasonic Q Gamecube, yes it looks darn sexy, in fact i forgot all about mentioning it.
Plus the thing plays the best games of any system too, which is another plus to its DVD and looks.
If I hadn't of had 2 DVD players at present, the Q Gamecube would be top of my list.

What's this, a console design topic from a Ninty? That's a first.

Well, seeing as I'm one of the few people who have actually SEEN all four, here are my opinions:

PS2 - OK, it's not fantastic, but the design is pleasing and the most functional of the lot. It looks suitable space-age and goes very well with my silver amp and silver/black speakers. Amazingly. It also looks cool next to my black telly.

Xbox - meh, it's ok as a design but it's far too large. You *can't* put anything on top of it so it's a massive space hogger. Besides that, green and black look cool, and it's very similar to my JoyTech multitap, which is swish.

GameCube - It looks like a child's toy, face it. In person, this isn't too impressive although the pictures aren't flattering. You *really* have to see this to judge it, but I don't give it much. Besides that - PURPLE! It's not even a nice purple. I've got nothing agains purple (my room is purple) it's just that it's such an awful purple. And don't moan on about multiple colours.

Panasonic Q - The nicest looking of the lot. Sleek, sexy, silver and BL000! Honestly though, it does look damn nice, if a little long. It's possibly the best looking console ever. A bit on the big side though and isn't really under-the-telly comapable. Ah well, nothing's perfect.
