It gave un true analogue control, four player, and some other stuff.
Its death see the death of cartidge based (proper) consoles - the GBA carries on that legacy.

Thankyou, goodbye and i'll be back tomorrow.
How many of you still regualrly play on your 64's?
I do, and I still buy games for it - I just got Turok 3 and Wipeout 64 yesterday.
The gameplay was nice and varied, with some terrific levels on-foot, on a speeder bike and in your ship, and there were a few naff levels, but I loved it.
Plus, lets not forget the N64 versions of ISS. Still the best in my vast ISS experience, better than Pro Evo.
San Francisco Rush was also a much treasured game for me, mainly as it could be played 2-player simultaneous, and the tracks were full of real-life San Fran landmarks and cool short-cuts. The handling wasn't great, but I got used to it.
It did get get pretty dull pretty quick though - but its the type of game you can dip in and out of regularly.
And I think you're right about Mario Kart 64 not being as good as the SNES version, with its over reliance on the power-sliding boost move and the controls didn't feel as responsive as I would have liked. I guess it really was impossible to better the SNES version.
And its goes som=ething like this:
the previous 10 then,
Banjo Kazooie
Pilotwings 64
Waverace 64
1080
F-zero x
Diddy Kong Racing
Banjo Tooie
Donkey Kong 64
Mario Golf
Mario Party 2
Feel free to add to the list as you see fit.
Any recomendations will be greatly appreciated.
