I spent more time in normal mode then a did in hard mode, due to the fact, at one point a spent a long time killing enemies for red orbs, didn't care about rankings...just wanted to get fullest health bar, all devil trigger symbols, most of the moves for ifrit and all for alastor. And then for good luck I purchased an untouchable, vital star, and afew devil stars. Took a while!

If you go in to NEW GAME, You get the difficulty choice and a charactor choice, The Legendary Dark Knight, look at his shadow :-)

When you fight the Phantom (big Lava Spider) you can actually hit the fireballs he spits out back at him. They do a bit quite a bit of damage as well. It's a risky move as you can easily get hit and lose quite a bit of your health.
Also during "Dante Must die" If you are having trouble with a bad guy just repeatdly sweep them into the air (push the analog stick away from them and use your sword) by doing this they don't have time to fight back or activate thier devil trigger. I used this technique to defeat the two Frost's in the sewers.
Also when i used the Sparda sword against Plasma's they never split into seperate Plasmas. Maybe this is because of the sword?

Anyway at the beginning of "Dante must Die" it says you can play as the Dark Knight Sparda. How? The sword doesn't have a devil trigger and i can't for the life of me figure out how to change into the Dark Knight. Have i missed something?

And what do you call that post?

Anyway, I'm still trying to get the best ranks I can on hard mode. I had A,S,B,C,A,S,B,A,A,B or something, but earlier on I bought vortex and now it keeps getting in my way. So I've gone back to mission 4, now my ranks are A,S,B,B,A,S,B. I'm up to the first griffon level, but you don't have to fight him in hard mode (you already ahve the ifrit gauntlets).

For Nelo Angelo use Devil Trigger - a good way of doing it is to just keep slashing when he blocks, after a few hits he'll let his guard down and you can get in a good combo. Risky manouevre, but it can sometimes work well.

I managed to complete it last night. This is only in Normal mode though, which I expect all of you have done. My play time was 6 hours 17 minutes exactly. Now I don't game too much, so I expect your times are better than mine. Doesn't that strike you as a bit short?

Oh and.. you can't do as much damage, they can.. and then when they go into devil trigger mode, then are tougher to kill and much more destructive if they get to you!

Cheers Darkreaper, I did try that at one time.. but I can't remember why I gave up, perhaps it's because devil trigger can do some damage and charges quickly when you do hit him. And yes.. I remember mission 5 starting off in hard mode thinking - ARGH this is going to be impossible, you shoot one, open him up, hit him and the other one gets you.

In dante must die, devil trigger doesn't refill your life gauge, argh!

I had trouble with this one as well. What i did was equip that Sparda sword thingy (the big red sword) it does far more damage than the normal weapons.
The two shadows at the beginning of the next level are very hard! As soon as you kill one the other one turns on it's devil trigger and you just get minced within seconds! It's very hard.

Your lucky, I cant get his life bar into red the best I've done so far is getting into half full and that was when I used a holy water, hey and why is that mode called dante must die is it because your life bar gets drained very much when you are attacked?
