I recently got a ps2 for xmas :) with a game(f1) but decfided to purchase another game Tony Hawks Pro Skater 3. When i got it home and put it in to my machine i played it for an hour non stop, then decided to play f1. I had cleared my old memory card which had 1mb on when i came to save it it wouldn't because i had an old memory card i had enough space on it but it didn't let me save it. So now i have to go out and shell out £25 just for a memory card. Why did't sony just make the machine compatible with both cards it would save a lot of difficulty, or do what the xbox is doig putting hard drives in that will save money on memory and will never have to worry about it.

PS2 save files are not fixed, but are

Different type of memory completely, different method of access - PS1 cards are only compatible with PS1 games.

PS1 memory cards are 1 megbit, not 1 megabyte; 1 megabit is 128k, most PS2 games require more than 128k (for example Devil May Cry requires 420k minimum - you couldn't fit ONE DMC save on a PS1 memory card.

Also, the save system is different - PS1 cards are 15 fixed blocks of 8.5k each - a single save takes up at least one block, even if it only needs 2k; you could in theory have 15 saves on a PS1 memory card of only 1k each, and so waste 113k of space.

PS2 save files are not fixed, but are more like normal files on a PC in that they only take up the required space for the file - so you don't waste any space at all.

And as has already been mentioned, PS2 memory cards use MagicGate, which provides secure on-board data encryption - much like the new chips used on credit cards. This was included due to Sony's on-line plans for the PS2 and the requirement for secure online transactions etc. This makes the memory more expensive, and is why it costs more than the equivalent memory for MP3 players and the like.

The only fair comparison in terms of price is with Sony's other MagicGate technology, the Memory Stick - which the PS2 memory cards are based on.

I have Shaun Palmer, and I find it to be a good game, but not excellent. A couple of months (before all the good games were released, and there wasn't much choice) people would have said it was a great game but now with the likes of SSX Tricky it won't exactlty draw you back to play it every day, although maybe every week. Its fun, but it can be fustrating as you have to land perfectly so you don't fall over e.t.c. and the precise realism makes it more like flight simulator.

I still play it every now and then. If you do want it, I bought mine from EB for £30 on sale. (game also have it at the same price) and I think its a good game at that price, but its down to opinion. If you are still interested try renting it first.

Shaun Palmers is NOT a very good game. I bought it from E-play, and even though they have a 7 day no fuss returns thing, they wouldn't give me a refund!!!! I bought it one Saturday and on the receipt it said I bought it at 1:00, and the next Saturday I went back and the guy said it was over 7 days. In actual fact, it was only 12:30, so it wasn't over 7 days. Shaun Palmers is a very mediocre game, get something like SSX Tricky instead, that's much better.

If you have a receipt, definitely take it back. £45 is one hell of a rip-off, you can get 2 for that price. I'd recommend getting it from a proper video-game shop where prices are reasonable rather than a shop where nobody knows much about games at all.
