Remember last year when we all heard the sad news: SNK, makers of the Neo Geo Pocket Colour, and developers of some brilliant games, had gone bust, and pulled out of the West.
Well, although it wasn't well publicised, Sony bought the company... and with it, all their expertise in handheld gaming (as well as some great licences like King of Fighters and Metal Slug).
So, how long do you think it is that Ninty see a cometitor on the hamdheld scene... it must have been in development for some time already!

a boost in quality for the hand helds is definetly needed with some competition the quality of hand helds will definetly rise. For now nintendo are getting away with some poor quality games sold at high prices. £35 for a hand held game compared to the like of metal gear solid 2 and final fantasy X sold at the same price is a rip off in my opinion.
Its a tough place to enter for Sony. So far their consoles are doing fine, but it`d only take one wrong move to cause trouble. To enter the handhelds would be a lot more difficult than their original entry into the console scene.
Instead of taking gaming into full view of the public, and out of the shadows, they`d be stepping into an already very bright light. Annoying too, as so far I`ve avoided handhelds, but a Sony produced one might have changed my mind. Their screens would be second to none.

Better for the handheld market if Sony do make one. Nintendo got the whole market to themselves with the GBA and think they can charge £35 for SNES remakes. Hopefully a Sony handheld would bring down the prices.
