I bet I am gonna start a huge debate, but here goes. I am a gamer, and I want a fast processor. Is there any noticable difference between the AMD Athlon and the Pentium 4 when using a computer? I am talking about the top end ones here, over 2Ghz. I was going to get the P4 2.4Ghz for £1100, but SR have dropped the price, and the one for £1100 now is the AMD 2600+. Is this OK, cos I don't really want to fork out another £100 just to buy pentium.

I think it's when the processor clocks too much and slows down the PC.

Not really, if you know which AMD CPUs to buy you can get real, real speed for extremely little cost. Tbred B AMD CPUs overcock, in general, a lot further than Pentium 4s, and run cooler too.

I don't actually have anything to reply to that really, so I'll just stretch this out, which I'm already doing, so....

Memo, you forget that the majority of people who own PCs share a common skill (or lack thereof, depending on how you look at it), and that is the inability to maintain a stable PC system...

You think you need a processor faster than 2GHz for games?!?!?!

Are you feeling OK??

With my Athlon 2000+
512mb PC2100 RAM
Radeon 8500

I run every game 100% smooth, including UT2K3, which runs around 40-50fps, the rest of my games run well over 65fps.

I don't know- I've got a Pentium 4 2Ghz, which f**ks up ME, but runs perfectly on XP. Good for gaming though, but I think I need more ram, and a faster processor.
